...the video game, not the lockout season.

Anyone here have it yet? Better than 2004? Improvements? I really liked the dynasty element of 2004, and I'm wondering whether 2005 will be worth buying or not.

From what I've heard... the ESPN 2k5 is the best hockey game since the old sega genesis days... plus it's only $20. However, the franchise isn't as good, but I guess the game play is great

-Ftball or should it be Puck

Bump, no other hockey gamers out there? Where you Canadians at?

I haven't bought a hockey game for a few years...since I now own a console, I will probably get ESPN's version due to its nice price point.

Going to the home opener for the Seattle Thunderbirds Saturday- even broke down and bought a jersey to wear when I picked up my tickets /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Screw the NHL. I'll take my minor league hockey at less than 1/2 the price. I will miss Hockey Night in Canada though- especially "Coach's Corner". Don Cherry cracks me up.

I bought NHL 2004 and thought that it was OK. I've heard many people talk up the sega/espn version so for 19.99 I think I'll give ESPN 2k5 a try this weekend. I'll let you know what I think then.

Background: When I found out about MAME, the original NHL hockey was the first game I downloaded. I'm big time into hockey games so when I say NHL 2004 was OK, it means that I was pretty disappointed. I hope 2k5 lives up to expectations.

After a quick check of eBay, I found that the ESPN game doesn't appear to be available for the PC. I don't have a PS2 or XBOX. So that option is no good for me.

I think NHL 2004 is pretty good. It's fairly realistic at least, as you can certainly play levels where it's not easy to score. But if you make a good play to get the goalie out of position, you can get an easy goal, just like it should be.

Let me know how 2K5 is though....I can't really justify buying a console, but I always think about breaking down and buying a used one or something.

[/ QUOTE ] Used GC are pretty cheap, but used XBox's and PS2's are still around 120-130. You can sometimes find just the system with one controller on ebay for around 100 though.

Are they really? That is criminal, considering that many retailers (Amazon for one) list the base unit X box at $149.

yeah, sometimes they are cheap on ebay though. I know gamestop frequently has deals in which you can get an XBox with a game(Halo usually) for 129.99.
