I am bit new to the forum but I am enjoying reading about your exploits and I feel its making me a better player. I just have a quick question.

What do the terms ITM and ROI mean?

ITM=In The Money and is expressed as a percentage.
ROI=Return on Investment (Winnings-Outlay)/(Outlay)

Thanks but I'm still not understanding ROI.

It's a measure of profit; the amount you have made expressed as a percentage of the amount you have invested. For example, if I had invested $100 in playing sngs and won $150, my ROI would be 50%.

Return on investment.

total of your buy-in + entry fees (example, $10+1, $10 is your buy-in, $1 is your entry fee).

Now, take your winnings and subtract the above from it.

Then take the number you get from that and divide it by your winnings plus entry fees again.

This is ROI, it tells you how much $ (on average) you expect to earn per game, over a period of many many games.

Really sorry but from that last explanation all I got was 39/61. Could someone do me an example?

Example:

If I play 10 SnGs with a buy in of 10$ and a rake of 1$ then I have paid 110 dollars in entry fees.

If out of those 10 SnGs I finish with 1st once, 2nd once, and 3rd once I would earn

1st: 50
2nd: 25
3rd: 15

90$ in total.

I would then divide my earnings 90$ by my entry fees ($110). This would give me my return on investment (ROI).

In this case my ROI would be 90/110 (81.8%). While 10 SnGs is a small sample size from which you can extrapolate nothing, this would be a very good ROI.

Now I understand, so if I am correct you have lost $20 from playing those 10 games?

codewarrior

Your ROI is actually:

($90 - $110) / $110 = -.18, or -18% or -$1.98 per game...

You are correct, see my post correcting his math.

Thank you!

I finally understand this, great explanation by the last poster.

You're welcome. Welcome to the forums.

If you feel like some fun and pissing away $11, try the 2+2 games on Wednesday or Thursday nights, and also on Sundays.

There will be a post tomorrow about the weekday games. Keep watching the 1TTF (One-table tournament) forum for details.

Ok I'll do that, one more term I need to know.

Bubble?

Ginger,
The bubble is the highest place finisher that didn't win any money. ie: If your SNG pays 3 places the bubble is 4th.

Here are two dictionaries of poker terms that might be of interest. They are: http://www.seriouspoker.com/dictionary.html, and http://www.planetpoker.com/games/dictionary/vocaba.asp.

Welcome to the forum.

Of course the math from my earlier example was wrong, as you would have lost 20$ and that wouldn't be a good ROI, it would actually be -18% as codewarrior explained without even mocking me as I'm sure I would have. That's what I get for trying to do quick math while playing at the same time.

Chris.
