When Playing $3-6 Texas Hold'em at my Local Casino I notice that people will play Small Pairs more often hoping to get the jackpot hand. The jackpot is paid for Aces Full or better beat by anything. Does the chance at the added bonus change the pre-flop value of hands like 8,8 to 2,2?

Mike Caro says in Fundamental Secrets of Winning Poker that a Jackpot makes 22 playable UTG. Dunno how correct that is, but these ss jackpot games are extremely so loose that it probably makes taking all into account sense.

I would have to say that I tend to agree with you for 2 reasons, 1. You will be playing multi way with players with low ranking hands, so you can win more pots. 2. The chance that you do hit the Jackpot hand is more than helpful to your bankroll. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif The Jackpot at the casino near my house was up to $52K it has since hit 3 times but when it was building you could not get a seat for hours.

Anyone else have a take on this view???

Obviously a jackpot that is large compared to the stakes is a big help. This is especially true if the winner of the hand gets a nice share. Once you make quad twos, all you need is for the rockets to spike a set.

Jackpots are extremely important because they increase the rake and change the way people play. The extra rake favors home run starting hands over small pot winners. The extra loose/passive nature of a jackpot-chasing game (if it exists) also favors good multiway hands.

Thus the jackpot builds the case for 22 even before you consider that you might win it. But theory is no substitute for looking at the actual game to see what people are doing. I spent part of Party's jackpot blowoff night playing with a maniac. In retrospect I have no idea what I was thinking. He killed the action you need to breed jackpots.

22 is playable UTG anyway.
