Im interested mainly in thoughts of my turn play. I bet out because I felt he might have been simply on a position bet on the flop and I might be able to push him off overcards if that was all he had. Also on the river, should I have simply bet out or was the check raise reliable enough to go for?

With him raising the turn, I think you can rely enough on a bet from him on the river.
