Alright,

So I'm really trying to tightup up preflop. For some reason, I consistently hover at 20.xx% - and I would love to get a little bit lower. I think I'm doing better, but I am trying to pick out positions where I seem to be playing too many hands. The sample size is 12k - which is the number of hands I've played since I began my education in limit holdem - all these hands are played at .5/1 and 1/2.

SB: 34.41% (.08)
BB: 11.98% (.18)
7: 17.12% .07
6: 19.13% (.04)
5: 16.78% .06
4: 19.18% .13
3: 20.08% .11
2: 18.39% .05
1: 23.25% .14
0: 22.43% .13

Numbers shown before the percentages are the number of seats off the button. The numbers to the right of the percentages are BB/H. A number in () is negative. Obviously this isn't a whole lot of information, but I am looking for some general responses about where I might want to try tightening up.

Looks like you're playing too many hands in EP.

I reviewed the tight game preflop guide in SSH and calculated the following preflop participation by position.

Number of plays by position:
EP: 136 or 10.26% (136/1326)
MP: 242 or 18.15% (242/1326)
LP: 306 or 23.1% (306/1326)

If this guide is followed, then the VP$IP Excluding the blinds is 16.456%, calculated as follows:

Weighted by position:
EP: 3/8 x 136/1326 = 3.846%
MP: 3/8 x 242/1326 = 6.844%
LP: 1/4 x 306/1326 = 5.769%

Weighted sum: 16.46%

Hope this helps a little bit.

Zero, any such calculations using the "loose game" criteria?

I have not concerned myself with the loose game. I'm just starting to learn hold'em, and other 2P2 people have mentioned in posts that the loose game, as defined in SSH, is not likely to be found very often, at least based on their experience.

However, I do have a note to self to examine the loose guidelines. I just don't know when I'll get to it. I will let you know when I do.

If i were searching for a non loose, non ssh type table (which I am not), I would still be looking. At least at micro limits.

There's loose and there's loose. If you're routinely having trouble finding tables with fewer than 6 to a flop, you're putting me to shame. The 'tight' game guidelines assume 3-5 people seeing the flop. My number is hovering in the mid 40%s.

Any anyway, they're just general guidelines. If your table is playing loose loose for a hand or six (or vice versa), act accordingly.

SSH defines "loose" as 6 to 8 seeing the flop on average. Even at Party .5/1, I don't know if I have ever been at such a table (with the 6-8 average sustained for more than a couple of orbits). If you are regularly finding such juicy tables, what are your search criteria? (Since Party doesn't give the % seeing flop statistic, I just look for the fuller tables with the biggest pots.)
