My third grade teacher, Miss Cemento, told me there was no such thing as a stupid question, but that's no reason to stop trying.

I'll be going to Vegas next month. For the first time I'll be driving. I've never noticed any parking garages, nor, for that matter, any parking spaces in Vegas. Where do you park? Are there parking garages in the basements of the casinos? In the movies, you drive up to a joint and a valet comes running up, salutes smartly, and drives off in your car. I've never seen anything remotely like this taking place anywhere.

One reason I ask is because I'll be driving my junker convertible, and sometimes the top goes up and down, and sometimes it just stays where it wants to. So I'd like to find a hotel with covered parking...

All Vegas casinos worth their salt have valet parking as well as free parking garages. I can see how you would overlook this if you visited sans auto in the past. There are one or two flashing lights in the town to distract you.

On The Strip, as you pull in the front entrance of most properties, there will be signs which clearly indicate where to go for valet or the garage. If you use valet, tip a buck or two when you pick the car up, but don't expect them to treat you like royalty like you see in the movies. Remember: They run the equivalent of a marathon per day in 120 degree heat. Salutes will not be forthcoming.

Enjoy the trip, and I hope your convertable co-operates. Nothing like cruising The Strip in a drop-top.

At the Bellagio they ask you to open your trunk.
