Yes, I was reading the gossip column this morning and found this blurb. This has disaster written all over it...

"Schwimmer might want to hit up Ben Affleck for dating tips. The two will be co-starring together in a comedy set at an international poker tournament, reports Variety. The Zak Penn-directed pic, which will also feature William H. Macy, Richard Kind, and director Werner Herzog, will shoot in February at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. Most of the scenes for the low-budget (under $10 million) film will be improvised, and Penn tells the trade he's trying to recruit other poker-loving thespians to join the cast."

Yes... but "only" because of William H. Macy and not because of Affleck, who was of course DA BOMB IN PHANTOMS YO! (I'm suprised nobody has said this yet)

Werner Herzog is directing...

While it may be a disaster, at least it'll be interesting.

Yes.

And "Boogie Nights" and "Magnolia," just to name two that put him in the Greatness category.

I thought what he did in "Magnolia" was absolutely brilliant.

I love Herzog, but I wonder if it'll be a downer.

I can see it now...Ben Affleck murders the state poker champion of Las Vegas and winds up thinking he's a god. When room service is late and his posse wants to order Chinese, he tells Matt Damon to execute disloyal members of his entourage, and is last seen walking up and down the back of a flatbed truck full of monkeys careening into the desert...

Macy is solid, but lets not shift focus from Schwimmer and Affleck starring. Gonna be tough for them to pull it off...hope I'm wrong cause we need another good poker movie.

As I understand it Zak Penn is the director and Herzog will just be acting.

I once saw a quote by David Schwimmer on one of those interesting-fact screens they show before movies. It said something like, "I just don't want to be remembered as the guy who played Ross." Maybe this is his big chance.

I liked Mystery Men and The Cooler. In fact, I own those DVDs. But I guess that doesn't mean much considering that I also own Feeling Minnesota and Reindeer Games.

Macy was at his Best in Sports Night.

Affleck's best role was in Boiler Room.

He was well suited for the role, and it was quick.

I can't think of any other movie Affleck was good in.

Puke!

Affleck ripped off Baldwin's character is Glengarry Glen Ross. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

And for those saying Macy's best role was Magnolia, come on! Sure, Magnolia is a great film, but have you seen Oleanna? Homicide? State and Main even! The Macy/Mamet combo is DEADLY.

Sweet, another Mamet fan.

Oleanna is near the top of my "everyone must read this" list. The movie is good too- pretty much what i pictured when i read it. I will have to check out the other two you mentioned.

That is all.

Affleck is good in Kevin Smith films (with the exception of Jersey Girl, which does not exist). Its a strange coincidence that in Smith films he plays a smarmy, arrogant sleazebag that likes to screw young girls in a very uncomfortable place. Its a role he excells at.

It was actually a well documented "homage" to the Alec Baldwin Character fromt he greatest movie of all time....

I actually sorta like Ben these days, his fall from grace seems to have knocked him down a peg or two.

Also he seemed like a decent fella in the Project Greenlight series.

Who wants to bet Schwimmer's character will be some sort of whiny bitch? Any takers? Macy's totally sweet, didn't you see pleasantville?
