Gallup has made a public defense of their polls, which, unfortunately, makes no damn sense.

It's wasted money. Ads which talk about ads or polls don't influence anybody. They just interest political wonks.

I was very suprised to learn today that Swift Boat Veterans for Truth have only raised a total of $7 million and have only spent $5 million. Considering the damage that 527 did to Kerry in August, I thought they had far more resources.

It's not how much money you have. It's how you spend it. Of all the 527 groups pumping money in to ads, only the Swift Boat group has accomplished anything.

"Ads which talk about ads or polls don't influence anybody. "

So if an ad (or report) says that Bush is a 10 point favorite over Kerry, you do not think that would discourage some Kerry voters from showing up? Would it not especially affect the borderline, less informed (probably younger), demographic from turning out?

IMO probably not. There are so many polls out there that anyone with a half a brain and half an interest in them will discern that their results can very a lot from poll to poll and from pollster to pollster. Why would someone not believe Rasssmussen and believe Gallup for instance? I mean you can speculate all you want but common sense would tell anyone to try and evaluate the polls in the aggregate.

Complaining about Gallup is a total waste of money. A better use of the money would be to show why a poll more favorable to Kerry is more accurate.

The only poll that counts is non November 2, 2004.

With all due respect to you guys (and to nothumb, who has a connection to them), the VAST majority in this country sees MoveOn as a joke.

When you're that far to one side (and constantly accusatory in your message), people shut you out over time and the message becomes irrelevant (even if accurate). Also, the "evangelical Christian" scare card doesn't really play between the two coasts - it's really only effective with those who are already voting MoveOn's platform.

"The folks" - as Bill O'Reilly would call them - tune out "red-ass" messages after a few blows to the head.
