I play shorthanded limit tables. Do they have shorthanded tables in casinos?

I've never been inside a casino either. =]

they don't have tables especially designed to hold fewer players, but if a table only has 4 players at, you could call that a shorthanded table.

Also, most(all?) rooms will give you a reduced rake short handed (if a player asks- make sure you ask).

Some rooms will even give you NO rake while playing very shorthanded.

One night at the Speedway, I played 5 hours straight with zero rake. That was kind of cool.

Hope you have a good time in your first B&M card room!

Best Wishes

I have never seen them anywhere, but fairly often you will find a few tables that are not full. Same thing if you played online and there were 5 players at a 10 person table. But in general, they will try to fill every seat. Must-move tables tend to stay shorthanded more often than anything else, or a new game they are trying to get started.

Like other posters have said, I do not know of any casinos that intentionally spread short-handed games, for instance, spreading holdem with 6 players max.

You will, though, have many opportunities to play short-handed. If you are at the casino very early or very late, the table may not be full yet. If you are playing a game and/or a limit that is not as popular, the table may not be full. Also, there will be many situations where even if the table is "full" with all 10 seats taken, 2-4 of these players can easily be absent at anytime (taking a piss, getting something to eat, making a phone call, off smoking if the room is non-smoking, etc.)

So if you like short-handed online, you won't be able to play short-handed all the time in a B&M, but you will get some chances to use your short-handed skills.

usually people are big sallys and will refuse to play when the table has less than 5 or 6.

Usually you don't qualify for the jackpot when it's shorthanded, so there's no reason to play.

Typically you will rarely see short handed B&M games at limits below 10/20. People at these limits want full games and the reduction in rake/drop still makes it too expensive in B&M where table and dealer costs must be born by only a few players (online the costs are marketing and servicing customer accounts, adding a heads up table costs pennies, if that).

At 40/80 (and to a lessor extent 20/40) and above there are many players who will play short and most casinos/clubs (or at least the ones in LA) will keep a game going or even start a short or even head up game for regular customers.
