View Full Version : SuperSystem 2nd edition
I've heard a paperback edition of SuperSystem is coming out in October? Does anyone know if it will be a reprint or will the book be updated to reflect all that has changed in poker in the last 25 years?
Word I heard (3rd hand, not confirmed) it that it's just a reprint.
Also, Doyle supposedly regrets the book to this day (smartened up too many opponents) so he's not motivated to update it anyway, IMO
Changes in the game since the last revision about twenty years ago include, but are not limited to:
Hold'em is played with two blinds instead of one.
High-low split games are played with an eight-or-better qualifier for low.
No-limit hold'em is rarely played as a cash game, but is frequently played as a tournament game.
Draw and lowball are rarely played anymore.
Omaha/8 is widespread enough that it rates a section. The same is probably true of pot-limit Omaha, pot-limit hold'em, and Pineapple variations.
Tournament poker is much more prevalent than it was twenty years ago.
Really, about the only section that doesn't require a major rewrite is the stud section.
Joey Hawthorne is gone, and I would guess that the other collaborators are probably busy enough that they wouldn't want take on another update. The original book was a massive undertaking, and it took Doyle quite a while to recover his investment.
