I know there are a bunch of Illinois grads so i thought this might be of interest...

I just got around to reading the alumni magazine from the University of Illinois College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (spring/summer edition) and there is a nice Alumni profile on Barry Greenstein. If you are a U of I grad take a look at the LAS newsletter... decent article on Barry.

yup, saw that last week. pretty interesting just to find out some of his background. i wonder if he'll ever go back to finish his degree (and teach poker 101).

heh, 2003 bioE. when i went back last year, there were fliers everywhere for 'net poker sites, with the rip tabs for a deposit bonus code.

Well as a former roommate of crockpots i can tell you he is still at U of I this year. I'm also pretty sure that crockpot is way too lazy to actually go around putting fliers up on campus.

Just noticed that the flyers were said to be posted last year. Its even less likely to be him then since I never heard about him doing them then, and he probably would have either used my printer to print them or tried to get me to help putting them up.

Longtime lurker....first time poster.

I live in Champaign, and while I'm not in school anymore there are certainly some very good players around here. Didn't know Barry was a grad though before reading that article. It's a good one.

are there any non-home game places to play in the C-U area? all i remember is the par-a-dice casino in peoria, but i'm not even sure that has a poker room.

Welcome aboard Cheno

The article stats that Barry completed his degree in computer science in 3 years before pursuing a PhD in math. He never completed his PhD dissertation though, "a fact that bothers him today".

no poker in peoria... i think your only choices are aurora, east chicago or southern indiana (i think southern indiana has poker).

BS in Engineering Physics, 1969 - am in hiding from the alumni association and would like to read the article. Is it online anywhere?

I visted the campus last year and got lost. Could not find my old apartment, nor the Physics building.

Dave (long time reader/member, infrequent poster - if you saw me play poker you would know why.)

cool article
i didn't realize there were so many from U of I. i'm currently a student here, in my last year, physics major, live in champaign.
couldn't find the physics building? where did the physics building used to be? its at the corner of green and goodwin now. i spend way too much time there.
and its too bad about not being many close places to catch some non home game poker. i've still got a lot to learn, i've only really been into poker for about six months or so, and i've taken a break lately because school has been keeping me too busy

Young or stupid, one of those. No need to get all technical here, you know what I meant.

I thought it was 18 to play on the internet? I'm sure there are many posters here inbetween 18-20 on 2+2, and I have many friends that are 18-20 that play as well.
