Gross. Maybe it's your landlord's responsibility to make sure there is no infestations of any kind of bugs, rodents, etc.

If your pillow is 6 years old, on average 2/3 of it's weight is dead dust mites and dust mite crap.

Good information at this web site: Mites, mites, mites (http://www.the-piedpiper.co.uk/th5i.htm) complete with drawings. Here is an excerpt about the Itch mite:

[ QUOTE ]
This mite, which is only 1/3 mm long and is very seldom seen, lives actually in and on the skin, with the female burrowing tunnels in the upper horny layer, particularly on the front of the wrists, the sides and webs of the fingers, the buttocks, the genitals and the feet. Eggs are deposited in the small tunnels she makes whilst the male remains on the surface of the skin. The development from egg to adult can take a good two weeks. The burrowing activities of the parasites cause intense itching and the original blister like lesions may be made much worse by scratching. Infection is usually by females with eggs being transferred from one person to another by direct contact. Various treatments are available by consulting your doctor. Have a look at the close- up below....

I've never heard of this. I'm washing my bed sheets tomorrow (and doing it more often in the future than I have been).

I don't like bugs in my home.

Good link.

How are bed/dust mites different (or are they the same) as those really tiny microscopic bugs that live in people's eyelashes or something like that (and I think you can't wash them off).

Years ago I remember seeing electron microscope pictures of them and they sort of looked like armadillos.

If you're still using a pillow that's 6 years old, you have bigger problems than dead dust mites. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

When they say, "Don't let the bed bugs bite," they aren't kidding.

Seriously, take care of this as soon as you can. They won't go away on their own.
