So based on a hand i was in tonight, what are the odds of:

five players at the table...
three players get pocket pairs...
all three players hit their sets by the river card...

any answers?

As a wild guess, I've probably played 100,000 hold'em hands at full tables. I only recall that ever happening once when I was in a hand. I am in more hands than the average person with my expectation. Of course I wasn't the top set, and it had the worst impact on my life of any poker hand that I can recall. So there may be additional times it happened when I was the top set, or when I got out of there based on the board, but which I don't remember.

It's not that hard to calculate:
Prob. of 3 out of 5 players being dealt pocket pairs:
(3/51)*(3/49)*(3/47)*(42/45)*(40/43)*(5!/(3!2!)) = .00199 ~ 1/500
Given 3 pp:
Prob of all of them making sets:
(2/46)*(2/45)*(2/44)*(40/43)*(39/42)*(5!/(3!2!)) = .000759 ~ 1/1318

So the prob of both of these happening is ~ 1/659,000

Actually the answer is:
Prob. of 3 out of 5 players being dealt pocket pairs:
(3/51)*(3/49)*(3/47)*(42/45)*(40/43)*(5!/(3!2!)) = .00199 ~ 1/500
Given 3 pp:
Prob of all of them making sets:
(2/46)*(2/45)*(2/44)*(40/43)*(39/42)*(5!/(1!1!1!2!)) = .00455 ~ 1/220

So the prob of both of these happening is ~ 1/110,000
