View Full Version : A little too heavy-handed on this flop?

On the flop I reraised enough back at the CO so that his odds were about 2:1. I now realize that since the best (although unlikely) draw would be straight draw with ~5:1, I could have reraised half-the pot back at him giving him 3:1 odds.

What do you all think? Reraise half the pot? Something more/less?

Thanks,
Justin

I think it's fine. I doubt he's got a straight draw...probably AK, so he's about a 3:1 dog, so you could raise to $3 to make it more enticing but still wrong, but I think $4 is fine. Just take it down and be happy an A or K didn't flop! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree with your flop play. remember, don't use result oriented thinking.

question though, why no raise preflop?

I don't like QQ for reraising. I do reraise with KK but QQ has:

1. Twice the number of floppable overcards that shut me down. If I've build a big pot before the flop then I'm in a stressful spot.
2. Almost four times the number of preflop hands that cause problems. KK is only bothered by AA (6 possible) while QQ is bothered by AA and KK (6+6 possible) and AK (10 possible): 22 total.

Admitedly a lot of the players in my game will get into a preflop raising war with worse than QQ. I just prefer to wait till the flop unless I have a super-solid advantage preflop.
