I Ed, I have a question for you.

I consider my game to be very excellent preflop (having focused on it probably too much), but probably very poor post flop. I am earning 1 BB / 100 hands at 1$/2$.

First question, assuming two players, one like me and an expert player play the same preflop. Let's say we see 20 hands / 100. The difference in earning rate will be how we play these 20 flops flop onward...

Question number 1: out of those 20 flops how many of those should be usually be folded?

My point is that the difference in my game an the experts game, is that the expert is able to extract the 3-4 extra big bets on the 12 or so hands out of a hundred.

I have no idea. I don't audit the number of times I fold on the flop. If I had to make a wild-ass guess, I'd say maybe 30-40% of the time you should fold on the flop.

many people other than ed can help you work out your question, although it has no direct answer. experts don't win because they fold more or less flops. they just choose the best option from call/bet/fold more often than i or you do as situations arise.

if you want to know how often a winning player folds on the flop, search for some stat posts that break down pokertracker's preflop and when folds stats.

here:
10,391 hands from .50/1.00 party poker
saw flop all hands: 24.33% (2528 times)

when folds:
no fold: 11.85%
PF: 74.66%
flop: 8.56% (890 / 2633 = 33.8% of all flops)
turn: 3.2%
river: 1.74%

if i punched the numbers in right.

very excellent preflop

This makes me chuckle. I doubt 5% of 2+2ers are "very excellent" preflop. And I don't count myself among them.

I also don't think that the difference between decent, good, excellent and very excellent preflop are anywhere near as important as the difference between poor and decent postflop.

that's kind of my point, I need to focus my game on the 3 remaining betting rounds.

I, for one, am a poor preflop player, but apperently a very good postflop player.
