I had been playing at this table for a while and I had two very similar hands where I was not sure what to do.

Hand #1:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (9 handed)

saw flop|<font color="C00000">saw showdown</font>

BB ($19.50)
UTG ($20.92)
UTG+1 ($13.05)
MP1 ($18.05)
MP2 ($52.60)
MP3 ($30.30)
CO ($49.70)
Button ($67.55)
Hero ($43.43)

Preflop: Hero is SB with J/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, J/images/graemlins/spade.gif.
UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls $0.50, MP2 folds, MP3 folds, CO calls $0.50, Button folds, <font color="CC3333">Hero raises to $3</font>, BB folds, MP1 calls $2.50, CO folds.

Flop: ($7) 4/images/graemlins/heart.gif, Q/images/graemlins/spade.gif, A/images/graemlins/spade.gif <font color="blue">(2 players)</font>
<font color="CC3333">Hero bets $4</font>, MP1 calls $4.

Turn: ($15) 7/images/graemlins/club.gif <font color="blue">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, MP1 checks.

River: ($15) Q/images/graemlins/diamond.gif <font color="blue">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, <font color="CC3333">MP1 bets $11.05 (All-In)</font>, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $26.05
<font color="green">Main Pot: $15, won by MP1.</font>
<font color="green">Pot 2: $11.05, returned to MP1.</font>

I guess I just don't know what people limp-call with. Suited connectors and medium pairs, right? I took my shot on the flop, and felt like I would have won had I bet out on the river.

Hand #2:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (8 handed)

saw flop|<font color="C00000">saw showdown</font>

UTG+1 ($20.89)
MP1 ($20.10)
MP2 ($39.30)
CO ($16.40)
Button ($27.65)
SB ($64.70)
Hero ($40.03)
UTG ($23)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, K/images/graemlins/heart.gif.
UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls $0.50, MP2 folds, CO calls $0.50, Button folds, SB completes, <font color="CC3333">Hero raises to $3</font>, MP1 folds, CO calls $2.50, SB folds.

Flop: ($7) T/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 5/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 5/images/graemlins/spade.gif <font color="blue">(2 players)</font>
<font color="CC3333">Hero bets $5</font>, CO calls $5.

Turn: ($17) 4/images/graemlins/heart.gif <font color="blue">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, CO checks.

River: ($17) T/images/graemlins/heart.gif <font color="blue">(2 players)</font>
<font color="CC3333">Hero bets $9</font>, CO folds.

Final Pot: $26
<font color="green">Main Pot: $17, won by Hero.</font>
<font color="green">Pot 2: $9, returned to Hero.</font>

I felt this was a similar situation in that the flop did not help me at all. I thought I was playing against the same guy as in hand 1, but it isn't. That's probably why I moved in on this guy on the river. Fortunately, he folded.

Is it possible that my underbetting the pot on the flop is creating these situations? Should I lead out for the pot instead of less?

You can ignore the hands if you want, as they are almost exactly the same as two hands I posted this morning. The important questions are what do people limp-call with generally? And, if you raise pre-flop and the pot misses you, how often do you take a shot at the pot on the flop?
