Of the players who played in the WSOP TOC, who has the biggest bankroll?(ie, who would $2 million help the most?)
maybe this is too personal of a question and maybe I'm out of line asking it. Im just not sure.
Greg Raymer
Phil Ivey
Daniel Negreanu
Chip Reese
Annie Duke
Johny Chan
TJ Cloutier
Phil Hellmuth
Doyle Brunson
Howard Lederer

Annie if you want to respond that would be great. Maybe its a common knowledge type of thing. Or maybe I'm digging too deep.

ivey is rumored to have made 10-20 mil in side games lsat year? however, i believe some of the older players have larger stashes

I think Doyle and Chip would have to have the largest bankrolls.

I think Johnny Chan would be slightly under those two.

Wild guess from biggest bankroll to lowest:

Chip Reese
Phil Ivey
Johnny Chan
Doyle Brunson
Daniel Negreanu
Howard Lederer
Annie Duke
Phil Hellmuth
T.J. Cloutier
Greg Raymer

Hellmuth is so hard to gauge, just for all his new worth on his books, cell game, movie, poker nights, etc. However I'd guess he has been a losing poker player over the last two years. Cloutier probably has more then Howard and Annie, too, and I'd speculate Annie more then Howard.

I've heard from a good source that TJ is often broke due to his craps habit. He's always trying to borrow $100 to go play craps.

It occurs to me that I could be selling Greg short, but I know he sold shares of himself for the series, I just didn't really read any of the threads where he said exactly how much he got to keep (if he did say that exactly).

Yeah, 2 mil will do a lot for your bankroll..or 1.6 mil or whatever

Whether there's any truth to that, I have to say, T.J. seems like nothing but a class act every time I see him on TV.

In the Jackpot Jay article it says that Greg got to keep 1.7 million after taxes.

Close, but i think THIS is closer.
Reese
Ivey
Brunson
Chan
Lederer
Negraneu
Hellmuth
Duke
Raymer
Cloutier DEFINITELY pulling up the rear, sadly.

Actually, Greg solicited some backers about 18 months ago (as I recall), during a rough patch where he needed some investment cash to keep playing cash games at the stakes he customarily played. He'd made the money back before the WSOP, but the backer contract extended through this year's WSOP so they were entitled to their shares regardless. And as a honorable gentleman, of course he made no attempt to weasel out of the contract, but instead simply paid them as he had promised. From what I've read, he netted around $1.7M from his WSOP win.

Hi ohgeetee,

The original post specified the largest bankroll as among those at the WSOP TOC. Barry wasn't at that tournament, so that's why no one included him. As for who would have the biggest bankrolls PERIOD ... well ... I'd put Bill Gates at the top of my list, even if he does play only $3/6....

It's real nice that we won't be reading about any Fossilman lawsuits like we might if he was the type to try and weasel out of something like that. It's great to see a guy who represents the game so well. I only wish that Phil Hellmuth could control himself better, considering all the success he's had. I understand he had to be big time frustrated at the end of that tournament tonight, but of course the whining started early on....it doesn't matter who he plays against. It does make for television though.

Doesn't he like give all his money away to hungy kids or something. I thought I saw that on his WPT appearance.

I would strongly suspect you are selling Howard short, he's won over $3.0 million in purses from tournaments in the last 3 years that I know of from reading Cardplayer as well and I'm by no means sure that is all of it. Frankly I'd be amazed if he isn't a winning side game player as well. His tournament schedule seems to mostly include the major WPT events and those held in Vegas/LA so I think his outlays are far less than strictly a tournament specialist like TJ or Phil.

My guess:
Chip
Doyle
Ivey
Negreanu
Chan
Lederer
Helmuth
Annie
Greg
TJ

Phil H. might have made a ton(and still might make) from all his "products". I guess you have to include that into his bankroll. Just as you would include the profits from being the WSOP Champion(other than the 2mill).

*After ESPN TOC, I might have misjudged Annie's spot

From what I understand Barry donates his tournament wins to a charity he has set up but I've never seen that he gives his cash game winnings to charity. By what I've read Barry has been one of the top 3 cash game winners in the last 10 years so if he keeps that for a poker bankroll I'm sure his poker bankroll is huge.

Don't forget the order of Phil Helmuth chips that Paul Phillips listed in his blog. That should push him over the top.

In one of my taxi rides in Vegas, after we mentioned poker, started talking about playing craps with Cloutier and how TJ loses all his money, but loves to roll the dice.

I'd switch Hellmuth with Duke (hey, she IS $2,000,000 richer) and this looks pretty solid.

Except for Ivey. Is there anyone out there who can really guess his bankroll?

The thing is.... who cares?

What is the difference between playing $2000-4000 with a 2,000BB bankroll than with a 5,000BB bankroll?

These guys are loaded (or at least should, given some of their longevity)

Daliman

That's because barry wasn't in WSOP TOC

from my understanding, howard was beating the hell out of the biggest cash games in the world for years before he decided to concentrate tourneys.

No one told me that REEDIN' WAS FUNDAHMENTUL!

Anyhow, I put annie prewin in 8th or 9th, as I'm pretty sure she posted that she plays 400-800 usually with a $250k BR.

The rest are really hard to guage. Phil Ivey, Doyle, Chan, and Reese are probably pretty close to each other at the top, with Daniel and Howard close behind. Annie prewin, Hellmouth, and TJ bringing up the rear, in that order I'd assume. And if Greg's 1/7 mil is all bankroll, then I'd put him behind howard and Daniel.
