In the tourney I just played yesterday they coloured-up twice. End of round 3 they got rid of all the $25s for $100s. End of round 6 they got rid of the $100s for $1000s. $500s were still in play though.

When we came back from the break and looked to see if we won the race (I lost chips both times) one guy claimed that he had started with 6x100 and had lost them all. He pointed out to a floor person that he should have ended up with a $500 chip. The floorperson thought about it for a second and then just flipped the guy $500.

I thought that was pretty cool. This is when the blinds were about to be 1000/2000 and I only had 2500 so I said, "you know I was going to say something because I had 6 as well." I got a laugh instead of 500.

Anyhow I was just rereading their rules on the chip races and it says "all $100 will be converted into $1000 chips" No mention is made of the $500s.

Was the floor's decision correct or by the rules were any amount of $100s up to quantity 9 subject to the race? If you can lose 9 then obviously just before the race you should be trying to dump your 100s for 500s.

If $500s are still in play, then the $100s should have been colored up to $500s instead of $1000s. On top of that, you can not be eliminated from a tournament due to color up. That said, the person w/ no chips in front of him that got tossed a $500 should have been given a $1000 instead, since that is what they were being colored up to.

Sorry poor writing skills. That guy claimed to have 6 x 100 but also had 7 x 1000. He wasn't eliminated. Yeah there is a rule against that.

Still, they should be colored up to the lowest denom. thats still on the table, i.e. $500. He and you both should have gotten $500, and had 1 chip left over to race with.
