Played Sunday at a new tournament at some guys house. 36 players, 2000 chips starting stack size. Blinds go up every 20 minutes.

25/50
50/100
100/200
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000....etc....

With 22 people left, the blinds were 200/400, while the average stack was 3200 chips. Within 20 minutes, through this level, they had 11 players left. The whole tournament was done in 3 hours. And there was a half hour of breaks, delays when tables broke, etc.

I want him to flatten out the blinds, increase the stacks, or make the levels last longer, so the skilled players stand more of a chance. He says "People like playing in fast tournaments, but if enough people agree, or whatever, I'll change it." HELP!!! This was WAY too fast for any skilled players to stand a chance. Finished in 11th place, got blinded out like everyone else.

Maybe he doesn't want you in his house for more than 3 hours.

If that is not the case, here is the structure I use for my home tourneys, which usually have 40 people and last 5-6 hours:

Start with 5,000 chips
Rounds last 20 minutes, no antes.

10/20
15/30
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
300/600
500/1000
700/1400
1000/2000
2000/4000
3000/6000
5000/10000

and then double every 20 minutes from then on.

You can try the TEARS system (http://www.pokerpages.com/pokerinfo/texstears/index.htm) which tries to combat the very problem you describe. If you want it to go a little faster, make each level 15 minutes.

What would anyone suggest for starting chips using these blinds with about 20-25 people and getting done a little faster but still not too fast to wear its a lottery.
