View Full Version : HULA Week 1 Thread - Fixtures, Results, etc

Sheriff Fatman
09-20-2004, 10:35 AM
To all HULA players

Last season we had a system of announcing match times to hopefully avoid clashes on the site. I assume we will be doing something similar this time around.

Having arranged my first fixture I'll set the ball rolling here:

Sheriff Fatman vs Schneids - 7pm ET, Thursday 23 September.

Out of courtesy to the other users of this forum I suggest that we use a single thread for all issues relating to individual game weeks (fixtures, results, complaints, etc). Please therefore post any HULA Week 1 business as responses to this thread.

We can make this the official week 1 thread.

However, please note we can't really play yet, since the invite list is not complete. Please get your damn accounts open and alert your captains so that we can finalize the invite list.

I was having flashbacks to a couple matches last season where I took a huge lead early and couldn't hold on as GoT came back from a 3-1 chiplead time and time again to even it up. Even when I had him under 100 he just wouldn't go away and kept hanging around. Finally had to smash him with a nice beat as my mighty 59s flopped trip 9s against his TT.

I ousted Cup in a great match(if I do say so myself!). Characterized by extremely aggressive play, we went back and forth for over an hour -- seeing him be all in, to me all in with a 60-40 preflop -- to his eventualy busting of AJ vs. JJ. Great match, my most fun and challenging match yet /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I came out on top after a hard fought all norwegian battle that lasted 241 hands. Lars started out very strong and had a 500 chiplead. Fortunately for me I got lucky to crack his aces with my turned 2 pair and get back in the game. From this point on the lead was in constant flux until the game shifted in my direction after afew key hands.
Last hand he held QT vs my J9 on a QJT flop and I spiked the jack on turn.

Good game Lars.

You can download it if you wish to and then you look in the tournament tab (single table), and scroll towards the bottom... You'll see something like "HULA 6."

TPC does not have hand histories so I doubt that you'll see any extensive blocks of hands.

Having the same problem here. Maybe it has to do with the table number? I can't sit at HULA 6. $50 is gone though and i was able to sit at I think it was HULA 4 earlier.

gonores
09-22-2004, 08:16 AM
Update.....

The reason some players could sit at the HULA tables, even though no money was taken from their accounts, is that the invite list for HULA I was never cleared. Therefore, HULA vets could sit. In order to put the invite list together for HULA II, I guess they cleared the list for HULA I. That means it may take a few hours of doowntime until any given player can get back on the tables. FWIW, I was able to play an exhibition at 1030pm central last night.

I guess this is my fault for starting the season so early. I thought 144 hours would have been long enough to get people to open an account, drop money into it, and alert the powers that be to their status. Live and learn, I guess.

Schneids did lay a beating on me. See-saw match, took about 35 minutes and 127 hands.

Had an early lead and got to around 900 then the tide turned. Lost with AJ vs A5 to get us back even and never saw the lead again.

After that I got outplayed and outflopped. Busted with an OESD which didn't hit.

Well played Schneids - good game.

I got a big early lead with some amazing runner-runner suckouts. Pokernoob hung in there and almost crept back to even. Then I got hit with the deck toward the end.

Nice match noob.

Yep, great match. We both played pretty tight, which cut down on the "utterly dominated yet I'll bet to the river with ace high" hands. I can't seem to get hand histories/stats from pokerrroom, but we went a bit into the 2nd round.

balkii defeats Aces McGee in a 1 hr, 24 min match that, if I read the thing correctly, featured something like 476 hands.

balkii took an early lead before McGee battled back. Suckouts evened out, I think, although Balkii had at least one and I think two flush over flush hands that killed me.

balkii was actually all in at one point, on a board of JTxJx against my KT.

Not a bad time to hit quads, although I'd say the final hand of the WSOP or maybe the 30/60 at the Bellagio would be a better time.

Well played, balkii, much respect.

Sorry team.

Jim goes down to DOV in a really enjoyable, flip flop match. Much river whorage was enjoyed by all. Jim was all in on at least 6 occassions before taking a chip lead. Turning had was most likely Jim's 79 vs. DOV's K5 on 7 9 K board, with Turn J and river J. We *almost* made it to the second blind escelation :-)

Dov
09-24-2004, 11:08 PM
After taking an early lead, and having Jimbo all in within the first 20 minutes, I found myself shortstacked at the end of the first round. Jimbo put up a very good fight, but finally succumbed near the middle of round 3.

I think this site is rigged for the short stack. (I may start a new thread on this later)

We had more rivers than could be counted, and I held 72, 73, 74, 82, 83, 84, etc. (nothing higher than an 8) for at least 25% of my hands. (That's my line and I'm sticking to it, until someone can get me HH's /images/graemlins/cool.gif)

Good Game Jimbobobb. It was a pleasure playing with a thinking player for a change. It makes bluffing so much easier. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

09-25-2004, 02:12 PM
Nolanfan34 defeats J.R., in a one hour match of over 300 hands.

After being down to 350 early, I scratched back to even and then took a big lead as the deck hit me in the face. Two flopped flushes and one flopped straight crushed J.R.'s spirit and will to live.

Seriously though, it was a tough match, as he came back from 150 a couple of times. Final hand we got all-in with my 99 vs. his AJs, flop came JT7, turn 7, river 8, and I stood up and yelled "DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" with the rivered straight.

I also apparently showed an incredible knack for laying down PF when he had KK and QQ. Pattern map was worth every penny.

I had a similar problem. When the action froze, i typed something in chat and it didn't appear, so I closed the software and restarted. When i got back in, I manually went to my table and got back on. But then a message asking if I wanted to rejoin a game in progress appeared, which I couldn't get rid of. I tried clicking no, then yes, and it froze me out again. One more restart, and this time i let the popup message take me to the table, and all was well after that.

Thomastem and I have been unable to hook up for a game. We were scheduled for a game Friday night, which I had to cancel as I was curled in a ball on my bathroom floor, trying to decide if I should sit or kneel, as my GI tract emptied itself as rapidly as possible through any available exit.

I am (mostly) better and hope we can get in the match soon. Is there an absolute deadline?

BTW, if a friend ever calls you up and says, "my four-month-old has been sick all day, and I really need to get into the office to answer my email. Can you watch him for 15 minutes?" SAY "NO!"
