View Full Version : possibly the worst poker day

jackbowie123

I'm sure everyone here's had one incredibly bad day or another...but perhaps none as poetic as mine.

The numbers:

9/18/2004
$5/10 at Taj
3hr 25min
260 dollars gone
1 winning hand -- including rabbit hunting, wouldve/couldve/shouldve hands
1 royal flush -- $25 pot
5 hours driving

Am I just another low limit player lamenting about a bad day? Or does this deserve some recognition--whatever that means--as one of the worst you've heard?

Feel free to comment

I've had 4 sessions in the last week in which I've lost more money in less time at 3/6 party, there's nothing to worry about.

26 BB's in 3.5 hours is nothing.

26 BB in 3.5 hours? Figuring (conservatively) 30 hands an hour, you played 105 hands.
Round down some more. Say one hundred.
You only won 1/100 hands? And you ONLY lost 26 BB? I think you are playing too tight. You should have lost more.

Nice royal flush.

Maybe you didn't slowplay your royal enough.

-35BB in 2 hours at 3/6. I don't think I won a single hand, so your day actually sounds quite pleasant compared to mine...

Day???? Are you kidding? -26BB isn't even my worst poker hour.

reading some of your posts are therapeutic.. thanks, this helps... zero wins in my first 95 hands at 3/6 Party Poker tonight. I got RagRag-Unsuited for 2 hours... a few rounds of 4-way Pre-Flop Caps with my small pocket pairs that never hit mixed in and you have a nice recipe for a shitty Saturday night...

won a big pot with a King high flush vs Queen-high so cut it to -25 BB's...

good news, I won all my 'showdowns'... /images/graemlins/smile.gif LOL

This one time, I asked a girl if she liked me and she said no.

Please. I've flushed 200+ in like 25 minutes of live play at 3/6. Non-drunk.

Try dropping integer multiples of your loss, walking home as the sun is coming up, and thinking you have to be at work in 2 hours.

I'll bite. Dropping $260 in one session is some horrific night, at 5/10?

Well, then I guess I've been put through the immeasurable suffering of Hell, more than once.

Bad news my friend... there will be worse. Much worse.

Oh, dear god. My mother warned me about this.

Yeah, 4. Go early cause the $20 ones usually sell out quickly.

Evan

I probably can't make it for the tourney, but I'll get up there around 5 or 6 and hopefully we can get a good side game going.

I could offer being 160BB down at 5/10 on Friday in about 5h.
I didnt get bad hands, just many very good hands and losing almost every single hand of them (except taking the blinds with aces/kings twice...)

I had

- 2 FH beaten by quads/rivered better FH
- 2 Nutflushes beaten by FH
- 2 straights beaten by FH/rivered better straight
- every set i flopped was beaten (3 times)
- worst was a titanic multiway pot of about 70BB where i had top 2 pair and someone with a miracle straight (being in with 78o capped preflop) took the pot
- another 3 two pair which were beaten
- beaten 4 times with aces/kings to hands like kq, qt and jt, all offsuit

I took some pots, but they were small, in every large pot i was involved i got a good hand to stay in but had second best hand...

I just took a step back to lower limits and am halfway getting my money back lol.

The randomness of session results staggers the mind. It really does. I played live 4-8 for one hour on Thursday, won $92, went to a farewell party for a co-worker, came back and played for five more hours and won $1 (which I gave as a tip to the chip girl).

Playing 4-8 and 5-10 I've won as much as $750 and lost as much as $450 in a single session.

The key is to focus on playing well throughout and not letting results, one way or the other, tilt you.

don't mind me I'm just jealous because I've been playing for so long and never been royaled.(shouldn't have folded that A 10 last week)

Were you the Asian kid with the hat who made the royal flush and everyone was all happy for you, but then you had no Taj card and so you gave your free thing away or something?

OMG, 26BB?!?!?!?! lol, that's funny

Don't sweat it. If you aren't equipped mentally to lose 26BB in one session, don't play 5-10.

I think the others have pointed and laughed enough. I'll simply say that you should never sit at a 5/10 table if you aren't mentally prepared to lose at least $500 to some of the worse poker players you think you've ever laid eyes on. And the looser you play and the more aggresive you play, the bigger the swings will be.

I lost the exact same amount in the exact same time in the exact same game last week. I take it you're the sundevils21 on Party 2/4, right? I noticed you slowplayed your sets until the turn a couple of times heads-up, in one situation I would definitely have bet the flop (when you had JJ on a QJx board and checked behind the flop).
