View Full Version : Would you lay down this two pair?

I'm not sure folding was the correct play. Is two pair a back-with-your-stack hand? It seems that people flop sets more often than two pair (since PP are played so commonly).

Can you all tell me how you would play this?

Thanks,
Justin

You're facing a $0.5 raise and your stack is over $23, in no way you're putting it in danger yet and in no way can you fold here. I'd re-raise him on the flop to see where I am.

Oh no.. couldnt he make that same raise with AK, AQ, A8, J8 maybe AT. He might be trying to build a pot with a flush/straight draw. Re-raise to 3. If comes back at you, you might fear a set, but 8s are the only likely one (no raise preflop, and hed have to have the last jacks or aces)

So if he reraised and a fear a set then what? Do I just just draw for a J or 8? I understand now that I should reraise but what happens later if he raised back? /images/graemlins/confused.gif

I definitely had monster-under-the-bed syndrom. I just didn't want to become a calling station and bleed month the whole hand.

At these stakes I would be willing to back top 2 pair with my stack. If he re-raises you, go all-in it will normally be +EV. He could have a smaller 2 pair, top pair, pair+ draw, or just a draw, as well as the possible set.

If I were drinking something, I would have spit it out when I read Glemzurg folds.

Unless you are Phil Hellmuth, there is no way you are sure your opponent has a set (only 3 possibly hands that can beat you at this point). AND, if your opponent is going to get cutesy and min reraise with a set on a scary board (straight and flush draw poss) then let him do it and make your decision later in the hand if more money gets in. Give up this 50 cents EVERY TIME to see what happens, even with bottom 2. Even with AK for that matter.

I dont advocate calling though, reraise to 4 and see where you are at. I think if he has any set he will push, anything else call/fold.
