A friend (not a 2+2er) and casual poker player is going to Vegas this weekend, wants to play some Low Limit Hold 'Em. Any recommendations that I can pass on to him?

I'd say Mirage or Bellagio. Along with being the nicest places to play poker in Vegas, they are full of friendly tourists nights and weekends. Mirage spreads $3/$6 hold'em, and Bellagio does $4/$8 as well as $2/$4 no-limit, IIRC. Mrs. Lossage, who's only played live hold'em about four times ever, likes Mirage by far the best.

I also think the Excalibur is a great place for your friend to take a look while he is out here. They have some 1-3 games that are very friendly. It's also an easy walking distance to Luxor & Mandalay Bay if he wants to hit some more poker rooms.

I was only there once, but Binion's was a very friendly atmosphere. Also there were 6-8 to every flop with little pre-flop raising so it could be profitable with even moderate ability to select hands.

Monte Carlo 2-4
Mirage 3-6

Skip Bellagio and Mandalay - 4-8 is the minumum.

Howard is right but avoid the Excalibur's buffet at all costs!

I went to Binions, aside from being far away from everything else, the games were incredibly soft and easy. turned $50 on a 3-6 table into $192 in about 3 hours.

Monte Carlo is a very nice, laid back, small poker room. Bellagio is the place for 4/8 in a big pretty room where you will often times see poker celebrities. Mirage is good for 3/6. On my next trip i plan on hitting up Palms, Orleans, and the Golden Nugget downtown, since they have a new non-smoking room.

The 2/4 at Imperial Palace is an option for a first timer. Very few at the one table I played had even been in a casino. The drawback is that the dealer kept having to explain what "blinds" were. A good first table as your friend will not be intimidated (except perhaps for the gargantuan size of the tables themselves).

I agree. I was there about a month ago and played the 4-8 and it was extremely soft. I made around $390 in about 3 1/2 hours. I seen many old rich ladies who would come in with a rack, bet everything to the river and then leave, then another would come fill the seat. Not sure if that was normal there or just happened on the day I played but it made for a profitable game. Most everyone at the table was very friendly, much more so that the Excal which there was very little table talk when I played there.
