Played in Tunica last night. The players were positively awful.
5 CC'ers to my UTG+1 raise after I hadn't played a hand in a couple orbits.
One of the players had 84o.
My JJ was saved on the river on board of Q824Q.

Almost ALL hands with 5-8 players to the flop.

Playing 250 hands/hr multi-tabling on the internet makes B&M play feel painfully slow to me sometimes....but when the players are THAT bad it's tough to complain.

Got some drinks with some BJ-dealer friends later.
Lots of talk about all the hurricane evacuees fleeing the gulf-coast and many of them deciding to head to Tunica for a few days.

Sounds like all the casinos' hotels are sold-out. BJ dealers and other staff are being encouraged to come in on their days-off if they want because they are expecting a lot of business.

I suspect the poker-rooms will be booming with many drunks and fish.

Tunica might be a real fish-market this weekend. Of course, if you're from out of town I don't know how easy it would be to get a hotel-room.

Where were you playing if you don't mind me asking?

There was a couple in the poker room at the Gold Strike last weekend that came up and got trapped. The electricity was out all along their way home so they couldn't buy gas. No better than they played, it probably would have been cheaper to take a bus and have their car delivered.

I play primarily at Horseshoe and Gold Strike WHEN I decide to play live.
I hadn't played live in about 4 months I think, but I might head down there more often.

steamboatin - not sure where that couple is from. But I don't see how the electric could be out their WHOLE way home. Everything is fine in this area obviously so they should just be able to buy gas in Tunica.
If they are from Panama City or Mobile or something then maybe their electric is out now. And they certainly wouldn't want to be heading back there currently.

I think the evacuees that were making the drive out of New Orleans were probably drying-up the pumps gradually all the way up to Jackson, Miss.

I played in Tunica a couple of weeks ago at Sam's Town. They have a 2/4 game that I wanted to give a try.

I heard Gold Strike is a smoke free poker room. Is that true? What is the lowest limit game they have? I think its 3/6.

It's smoke free. Lowest limits are 3/6

Horseshoe, Gold Strike and Grand are all smoke-free.

Horseshoe has 4/8. Everywhere else usually has 3/6.

Sounds like our 20-40 game at the Horseshoe, Tunica. Just another nite for games like this. Not that unusual to see pre-flop pots of $500-900.00......."85 good, ni han".

And as for the coastal refugess coming...they are here. Spoke to some at work Tues nite in the poker room at Horshoe. We expect plenty for the next 24-72 hrs.

The Gold Strike poker room is technically smoke free but you can smoke at the Slot Machines around the outside walls and just outside the door. If you have a serious problem with smoke, it would be wise to keep that in mind. No one will be sitting at the table blowing smoke in your face but depending upon your table, they could be closeby.

Maybe the female half of the couple was just trying to work us dirty old men for an advantage. She was reasonably good looking and just casually mentioned that because she was short stacked it would be nice if one of us paid her big blind.

The dealer asked her not to solicit big blinds at the table. I am as vunerable to femenine wiles as the next guy but I figure anybody that sits at the same table with me and trys to take my chips, better be ready to pay their own way.

They also don't seem to mind if you're walking around with a cigarette. From what I can tell, you can essentially smoke anywhere but the table.

I've heard other people say that's one of the softest games you'll find in Tunica. I don't have the bankroll to play it, but I've been told 6 players seeing the flop for 3 or 4 bets each is not at all uncommon.

When does this 20-40 game play ? Is it like that on the weekend or a certain day of the week?

JTrout

it may not be 24-7, but it's close.

Hi JTrout, do you play in the 20-40?

Are you getting any weather down there?

JTrout

hey steamboatin,

no, I haven't played the 20-40 yet. Mostly play 4-8 or 10-20 B&M.

I'm in N. Mississippi, and it's a steady rain all day today with winds 15-30 mph.

We'll miss the worst of Ivan, but probably get some flooding and possible tornados.

Mobile and Pensacola took the worst of it, and Birmingham and maybe even Atlanta will get tons of rain, possible tornados.

I'm thinking of going to Philadelphia, MS (indian casino) tomorrow. I expect the games to be awesome.

Cheers,
JTrout

I have seen them close it down around 5 AM or so on a Sunday morning. The 10-20 game I was in was getting short-handed, and the refugees from the 20-40 game filled us out.

WTF? "soft"? It aint soft baby. It's a slugfest. And you better plan on burning some chips. It's one of the most aggressive games AND LOOSE that I have ever seen anywhere. It's a game that can be beat for a ton of chips for sure. But you might be in it for $2k before you ever drag a pot.

This game does go almost 24-7. When I left work this morning at 9am it was 4 handed and was building. It never got below 4 handed all nite. At 2am it was full with a 5 handed must move going. Generally I would say it is down for a total of MAYBE 18 hrs all week. The rest of the time it is going and rammin and jammin baby.

How the hell can you call $700-900 pots PREFLOP soft?
hehe...last nite there were 2 consecutitve $2000 pots and the 3rd pot was only around 16-1700...won by 23o...making two pair on the river. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

OK, "soft" was the wrong word. My point was that I've heard they're super-loose.

Well I dunno...do you call seeing the flop for a cap with 23o and calling a cap on the flop with a pr of 2's, and 3 bets on the turn w/o any more improvement "loose"? /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've also heard the 20-40 at the Shoe is full of "regulars." How do players like that stay in any game regularly? Sounds pretty crazy.

bigfishead
09-17-2004, 10:45 AM
There is probably less then 10 regulars who show a profit year after year. I can honestly think of only 2-3 that I see all the time on graveyard. I dont see the day shifters often enough to remember/guesstimate which ones truly show a consistent profit.

Yet this game is populated by "regulars". "Regulars" does not constitute "winning players" in poker.

A very important and often overlooked point.
