So I've been playing SnGs for a couple months now... but my ITM% is very low (5-10%) and my ROI is still negative. I consider the money I'm spending now the cost of my poker education, but I'm looking for some real feedback on my play so I can try and take it to the next level.

I just finished a rather brief 10+1 on Stars where I finished 6th. I'm going to post the interesting/key hands for you guys to review.

I'm going to play another Stars 10+1 shortly and I'll probably post that one as well.

So thanks in advance.

First, wow 5% - 10% ITM? It's great that you have found this site. NOW RUN QUICKLY Read the FAQ five times and play at really low limits for a while

good luck

Yeah, I've read the faq. I have a printout handy, and I'm trying to let it guide my play and fall back on it when I'm not sure what to do.

I think I followed it pretty closely in the 10+1 I just took 6th in, but I'll let you guys comment on that yourselves.

And, like I said, I'm playing another Stars 10+1 now and hopefully I'll last longer, but I'll post all the key hands from that so you all can bestow your wisdom on me.

Thanks!

Oh, and btw, I have been lurking and reading here a lot over the past couple months, and I'm still not improving my ITM% very much, so there are obviously some leaks in my game that need plugged ASAP. It's hard to make that kind of determination from the hands above, so I'll try to get some more useful ones up soon.

kj suited and qj suited are hands that i feel need to be limped......

unless position and # of player dictates a raise and even then, i'm usually only minraising with them.

if you raise with those, and you entice ak or aq into smooth calling you you're going to be in a world of trouble by being more pot committed than you really have to, and then be put to the test of folding the second best hand.

you have the aggression part down correct, and i do play party, so fewer starting chips somewhat limits the plays that i can make, but you might need to back off the aggression a little bit with hands that are not premium.

the hand with 88, where you raise preflop then check on the flop, if i'm against you even on a baby flop with overcards, i'm going to come out and attempt to take this flop away from your weakness. Then you river the 8 making a set. you have to understand that by being checked the whole way down, your opponent has nothing, and might make a crying call for a min value bet river with an ace high or something of that sort. you're not going to get action betting that river strong and representing the monster that you have in your hand.

there are a few other things, but i'm playin a party million qualifier right now so i have to close this down and concentrate....

hope other posters can point out some other things.

Next tourney, Stars 10+1, 5th place finish.

I think I was playing well until the last hand, which I think was just really hard to get away from.

Let me know what you think.

Too many hands that could be extensively commented upon but I'll just do the last one. Your raise on the flop is a bit questionable as it probably won't do what you want it to do (win the pot outright). Both the bettor and the caller (of 100 chips)have you covered so your 400 raise probably won't scare them away if they have a decent draw. You only have middle and bottom pair so you might be behind already. Possible hands that your opponents could have are AK, KQ, QT and various flush draws. When the CO Raises all in and the small blind calls it, you should throw away your hand immediately. You are either behind or looking at getting outdrawn. Take at look at your own position versus your opponents if you fold. The small blind has the CO covered so one of them is going to go out or be severely crippeled. If you fold you still have 1300 chips and the blinds are only at 100.

I would say your biggest problem is that you aren't raising enough when there are limpers already in the pot. Don't raise a standard 3xBB raise when you have limpers, usually a good rule is 3xBB + 1xBB for every limper, and if that adds up to more than one third of your stack, push!

Also, KJs and QJs are not raise worthy hands, especially when there are already limpers. You can limp behind if you want, but raising a small amount is the worst idea. You can either raise a lot if you think you can get a lot of folds, or limp behind if you think you can steal the pot on the flop and the limpers are loose, or you can just fold if table is aggressive, and wait for a better spot to get your money in.
