The dodgers' magic number. I hope they have a few more cannisters of smoke and a whole lot more mirrors on hand to get them through the regular season and deep into the playoffs.

Hopefully better smoke and mirrors than the Yankees. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

They've scored 101 more runs than they've allowed. Only St. Louis, Boston and Atlanta have done better.

They're a fine team.

Thanks some to the trade with the Diamondbacks it's not all smoke and mirrors! Steve Finley (http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/la/news/la_news.jsp?ymd=20040913&content_id=857096&vkey=ne ws_la&fext=.jsp)

Sure, Finley's having a great run, but 11 HR since the trade? at age 89 (or somewhere close to that). And Jason Werth? Jose Lima? Sean Green has another crappy year, but seems to clutch up at some very opportune times? All smoke and mirrors, friend.

You can do a lot with smoke and mirrors - The Yankees have won more than 90 games.

Steve is a vaiable asset. The Dogers may go all the way and Finley can collect another WS notch on his belt and retire to the Viagra lecture circut.

Penny may be back in time for the playoffs? Penny (http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/la/news/la_news.jsp?ymd=20040912&content_id=855872&vkey=ne ws_la&fext=.jsp)

the way things are falling into place, I wouldn't be surprised to see both Penny and Nomo in top shape and dealing for the playoffs. it just feels like that kind of year.
