on page 27 of The Sun (UK's best selling newspaper) today. Girl who's making £4.5K a week at Ladbrooks apparently. Wonder if she's a 2+2er?

"John O’Reilly, of Ladbrokes E-Gaming, said: “We hope Lee-Anne junior doesn’t become a poker whizkid.”"

Huh?

This is a comment typical of a casino- or bookmaker-orientated person and shows the fundamental lack of understanding shown by some dunderhead Support Staff, particularly in the casino and bookmaker spin-off poker sites.

Depends what she is platying, the tournements on there tend to have 4-500 players so are worthwhile and I think there are a few decent no limit games on there, I also suspect that during the day the site is busier and better than Party as Laddies is europeans only.

Phill S

lol, maybe its just cos i play smaller limits, but its pretty slow.

there were a few PL and NL 25 tables running, a few MTTs, but the SnGs were damn awful, i left cos i couldnt find a game when i wanted one.

maybe if she plays on an evening shed find much higher games, but seriously, at no point in time will laddies ever have more players than party. i doubt it could have more than stars.

however, all credit to her. she makes 200+K (in dollars thats getting on for a good 300K) but more importantly, due to our tax laws in england, its all tax free!!!.

Ah well my suspicions are wrong then never played ring games on there just the odd tournie on an evening.

$300k seems a lot though even the likes of David Ross are not making as much as that at the 15/30 tables from his past postings.

Exactly what caught my eyes too. This is so stupid a comment that it made me think the quote was fabricated by the writer.

Ladbrokes has both 15/30 and 25/50 NL as well 100/200 and 200/400.

Party's highest NL tables are with a ridicolous max buy-in of $200 and even with blinds that are too high. Laddie has very decent action at NL1000 and even regular action at NL5000. Party is no competitor to Laddies regarding NL.

I don't know if this mama plays NL but I suspect she does

If she is winning £4,500 a week playing 5 hours a day of, say, 15/30 NL shouldn't she have a biggest single day win of rather more than £7,500? Doesn't that imply that she is not only a very big winner but a big winner with relatively little variance?

She said "Who needs a proper job when I can make what most people earn in a month in a couple of hours?"

Her win rate appears to be £128 an hour (assuming a 7 day week) so that's not actually true unless she is talking about a particularly badly exploited class of illegal immigrant.

And if you can win £128 an hour why on earth would you only play 5 hours a day?

BTW It's interesting to note that WSOP winner James Vogl is doing exactly the opposite of the girl in this story and packing in his poker playing to take a job in investment banking, saying:

Vogl says [...] he's already preparing to retire from the professional poker circuit. In September he's due to start a job in the City, trading equities - a job not without its own rich rewards.

"I want a more balanced life. Gambling is a lot of late nights and travel. It's also quite volatile. I won a lot this year but I could easily go a whole year without winning."

Which sounds much more like my personal experience of Poker.

Seriously, do you really think everything the poker lady says will be reflected objectively in the article? Of course not. The writer adds some figures, changes a few statements etc and, well, this is how journalism works. I've worked on a newspaper, and when I quit, I knew that when I read an interview (or an article) a maximum of 50% is totally accurate.

"The writer adds some figures, changes a few statements etc and, well, this is how journalism works"

The article is written by John Kay who is one of Britain's most respected news men and firmly of the "Old school". I can tell you he would most certainly not alter direct quotes or change figures.

As someone more than averagely familiar with British newspapers and journalists and I can also tell you what you imply is not at all how journalism works.

I asked them why they had spoiled such a fantastic advert with such an inane comment, and asked why on earth would they not want 10,000 poker whizkids playing at their site if they could get them.

Here's their reply:

"Thank you for your e-mail.

The reason for not wanting 10,000 poker whizz kids is down to very strict legislation regarding underage gambling which we fully support.

If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind regards,

Ladbrokes Casino

So they basically wanted to add to the article:

"yes, we think it's great that this player is successful. But we sure hope that any kids she may have in the future aren't as talented as she is because we do not want them to parttake in such activities at an inappropriate age."

sure, that makes sense.

If there is anyone here who can watch BBC TV Northern Ireland, she is going to be interviewed on Nolan Live in a few minutes!

Mike Haven

A reasonable interview by a non-playing host.

She has won £150,000, so far, this year. She's not addicted - she sees it as a job. Lots of health warnings - for every winner there is a loser. She recommends starting at the dollar level, with learning and gradual progression. No book-learning was mentioned or recommended. The Las Vegas marriage was an invention. She is being asked by TV stations all over the UK for interviews, so this is a high profile case.

There could be some new action on the European sites over the next day or two!
