I was just in NY at ground zero and was amazed by the giant hole that was once the Twin Towers. I saw a sign that said that the towers were even by current standards "arguably the tallest" and still to this day had the largest in floorspace.

The freedom tower is nice and all, but it doesn't seem to impress me as much at the two monsterous twins. After all it's only one tower, not two. The freedom tower is much thinner and is even empty on it's upper floors. Are we afraid to build a giant occupied symbol like the twins?

Do other people see the freedom tower this way too?

It is much skinnier and the top 676 feet is empty.

"400 feet that will hold wind turbines. It is enclosed by a lattice of cables meant to evoke those of the Brooklyn Bridge. The structure is topped by a 276-foot spire." So basically a 700 feet of tansparent, empty tower.

IMO, it's not very impressive, but the towers were.

Thanks, but my question remains. Is the freedom tower, and building a single, much thinner, and even significantly hollow tower a bad symbol for America? I can't help but think, thin hollow tower = thin hollow backbone. Do other people see it similarly?

here's another pic

The tower has a pleasant shape etc but somehow appears out of place in the skyline. It doesn't 'fit'. The top being 'empty' seems strange to me. My initial reaction is sort of mediocre.

When I heard about the rebuilding etc I was hoping for a more retrograde building(s), sort of like a combo Empire State and Chrysler Building form or blend.

I have read the spire is supposed to copy the torch on the statue of liberty? Also doesn't it reach the height of 1,776 feet? In the end I agree with you. It looks a little fancy schmancy, where the twin towers looked all business.

I like it.

I doubt it'd be possible to make something -that- tall and that skinny that could be usable on all floors.

I wanted them to rebuild the Twin Towers or something even bigger.

The Freedom power to me seems like a bow to terrorism.
