Hi everyone

I am going to be playing my first (real) No limit Tournament in a week at crown casino in melbourne, australia. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how i should play....

The buy in is $55, the top five from each table advance and the blinds rise every 20 mins

That's all I know about it, and even some of that info is a bit sketchy. Any help would be great. Thanks

Is there a time limit after which they determine the 5 biggest stacks? Or you play until there are only 5 left on your table and then you advance?

If it's a time limit, you need to be aware of how much time is left at all times, and be more willing to gamble than you might normally be. This format reduces the skill advantage players may have, as it normally will come down to who gets the best cards during that time. If you aren't in the top 5 on the last hand, you have no choice but to push your chips in regardless of your cards!

If it's a standard elimination, then you would want to play your normal game and treat it as a super-satellite. Once there are 6 players left, feel free to steal from the short stacks who are looking to just qualify for the next table. If you are one of those short stacks, don't fall into the trap of folding good hands in order just to qualify, as I assume you'll be taking your chips from this round into the next. If this is not the case and everyone starts even again, then play to outlast any shorter stacks than yourself.

Hope this helps!
