You can comment on my check raise on the flop, but the funniest part is the Cold call. I'll post results, because it doesn't much matter.

Can I comment on your pre-flop call? It's bad. Real bad.

your limp is almost as bad as his cold call. you played this hand very poorly. instead of concentrating on how bad others play, you should try to get better yourself

Well, don't I just look like an idiot now ...

I guess that was a pretty bad pfre flop call, wow.

check raising the flop with bottom pair, then checking the turn sucks, too

I think I like MP3's play the best here.

Man, you'd think you'd pick a hand you didn't play donktastically for a look-how-bad-my-opponent-was post, which is doomed to suck anyway.

Okay, since we're all having such a great time with my mistakes, could we just answer one question?

Would you call this hand in my position if all three had called and not folded?

What about with ... A2s?

mikeyvegas
09-10-2004, 06:16 PM
I used to never play K-xs (x<9) unless I was in the sb or BB. The only time I have been playing it out of the blinds now is in the CO or on the Button in a loose/passive pf(6-8 to the flop for 1 bet) game per SSHE.

K2s >>> A2s because a pair of aces are a lot better than a pair of kings

x2. This isn't a hand you should be playing from middle position. I might toss A-2s here depending on the table texture.

MicroBob

I would possible call from MP with Kxs with 3 limpers in already. And definitely with Axs.

But open-calling with this with zero limpers from MP is pretty terrible.

MPish unopened with a poster is raise or fold territory for me. Although I *might* limp a baby PP here, but in that case I want garbage hands around to pay me off.

MicroBob

i think it should be

K2s <<< A2s

Its just too iffy a hand. I only play Kxs in the blinds or maybe the button in a very loose passive game.

A2s I will play anywhere in a loose passive game. If there is a chance to be raised behind me I will dump A2s also.

Completely agree.
There isn't much you should be open-limping with here imo.

I would possibly limp the low PP too...but that's about it.

If you're going to open from MP you should be in a situation where you are happy to be raising it up.

Now for the the real question: Is it donktastic? You make the call.

From "Winner's Guide to Texas Hold Em" by Ken Warren

About any two random suited cards (such as Q5h) it "is a favorite of a lot of low limit players and is a hand you should encourage them to play. You will never have the right odds to play the hand for any reason and it is a big loser. If you are a good player, this is the type of hand your opponents will be holding when you beat them. Your job is to smile, drag the pot, and say 'Nice Hand' "

Preach on , Mr. Warren

Someday...probably say, six months from now, you will be dispensing sage advice, a regular and well respected online player, crushing 3/6--5/10. At that point, one of your friends will do a forum search, find this thread and top it. Just because.

Mike,
thanks for the great guidelines here! I've been pondering this around in my head, after playing a K5s recently, and your answer answers the questions I had, and gives me direction on how to play this correctly.

JD,
Thanks for giving us newbies the inspiration to put our butts on the line, not mentioning pride, ego, etc., and post away. Junk took a lot of junk from this post, but I learned a lot about some things I've been struggling with myself.

Monster pairs, and AKs etc are more straight-forward to play than the more difficult, questionable hands. It's good to know, without question, what shouldn't be played.

By far the funniest part about this thread is that you are probably a losing money player who is making a post making fun of other losing money players.

I wouldnt get that carried away. If you are in LP and there are 4 limpers its a pretty easy limp IMO. There is also a big diff between like K3s and K8s. Ill play K8s from LP with only 3 limpers as long as im fairly sure it wont be raised behind me.
