I dont know much about this conflict. However, it seems that genocide is occuring.

I have some simple questions:

1) What should the U.S. do?
2) Does the U.N. have any ability to stop what is happening?
3) Why do these types of atrocities keep happening?

Tough question. There is the Ray Zee argument that we shouldn't run around trying to make things right in every miserable corner of the world. We should just worry about what is in the best interests of the USA. That is probably the best course of action but it is in direct conflict with my sentiments. I have a very difficult time spitting on somebody in desperate need of help when I could toss them a life preserver at very little cost to myself. If we look at what happened in Rwanda, the genocide almost certainly could have been prevented or postponed with a minimal amount of intervention from outside forces.

hahahahha! I can't wait to hear Kofi Annan's excuse for this one. Yes. the UN has the ability to intervene in a meaningful way. I doubt it will do anything.

Don't know. It seems to have started when humans began growing their own food instead of hunting and gathering.
