View Full Version : Another Huck Seed story

Yesterday, after busting out of the tournamnet, I wondered around the floor of the Hustler club. I saw one of my buddies playing a $30 no-limit satellite with, you guessed it, Layne Flack. Layne was just goofing around, I'm sure... drinking and having a good time. He was one of the first to get knocked out of the bit $3000 event (even though he was 45 minutes late... go figure). I thought now would be a good time for introductions. I go up next to him and my buddy.

"Hey Layne!"

He looks up. "Yeah?"

"You should put me in the 4-8 game, man. I'm good, I swear it. And it looks REAL soft."

"The four dollar eight dollar game?!?"

"Yeah man. I could make you twenty bucks EASY!"

"Uhh.... why don't I just give you twenty bucks to leave me alone?" A few of the other players laugh. I wait for the twenty bucks, but he doesn't give it to me... so i walk away.

After my unsuccessful attempt to get a backer, I sit down in the $5/$10 pot-limit game. After about an hour of playing, I'm up $500. Huck Seed sits down behind some guy's chips who had been gone for awhile. "Deal me in," he says. "Brian told me to play his chips." So he posts and the dealer deals him in. He's in the spot right before the button.

The pot gets about seven handed. There's me, Alex P., Mel, and a few other guys i don't recognize. The flop comes 7c5c3d. I check, Mel checks, player in seat 6 checks, bet $50. Huck calls the $50. Alex P. makes it $250 to go. Fold. Fold. Then player in seat 6 raises the pot... about $700. Original bettor folds.

Huck thinks for a second, and looks at the guy's stack in front of him. The guy has about $2500 left. Huck has him covered..

"Ok...." he says, calmly. "I'll raise $1800". Everyone folds back to the seat 6 player who is shaking. He lets out a little cough. "All-in," he says. Huck calls.

The turn comes an 8 of clubs, putting three clubs on the board. Seat 6 turns white. River comes 10 of clubs. Huck turns over the Ac3c. Other player holds his cards in his hand and has a look on his face like he'd just been hit in the back of the head with a 2x4. Just kind of stares blankly... then whimpers "nice hand", gets up and stumbles through the door.

"Deal me out!" says Huck, even before he's finished stacking this guy's hundred dollar bills.

A few hours later an older railbird came up to me. In a whispered voice he says

"You playing in that Wednesday tournament? $20,000 added by the casino!"

"Nah, " I say. "I'm going back to San Jose."

"I'd really like to play it..." He's leaning over like he's telling me a secret, "but I don't know how."

I play dumb... "You don't know to play Hold'em?!?"

"Nah, man! I'm very good at Hold'em. I don't know how to get the money!"

"Oh..." I think for a second, as if trying to figure out the solution to a grave problem. I frown a bit... and then... !!!! I've got it!

"You know what you should do, buddy?" I point to Huck Seed sitting at one of the pot-limit games. "You see that guy right there? That's Huck Seed. I hear he stakes players ALL THE TIME! Even players he doesn't know. He just likes to gamble it up."

"That boy right there with the fuzzy hair?" The guy asks doubtingly.

"That's right, man! You should go ask him. And I'll tell you what. You'd probably have better luck right now, since he just won a tournament and is really excited about it."

The guy wonders off in Huck's direction. I hope he does well on Wednesday!

How often does the $5-$10 pot limit go down at the Hustler?

It's been going on every day that I've been down here... but my guess is that it won't go after the tournament series ends on Wednesday. It's a very good game right now, though. Several players don't really have too much of a clue... including your's truly! /images/smile.gif
