So, there was a loaf of french bread sitting on the counter getting old. I was about to throw it away, then I remembered that you can make bread crumbs from old bread. But then I realized I didn't need any breadcrumbs. So then I figured that maybe this is what you use to make bread pudding. Time for the Internet. Surprisingly, I actually also had the necessary milk and eggs in the house. The bread pudding is now baking in the oven. Results to be posted later.

If by gross you mean yummy and delicious, I agree.

bread pudding is excellent with a good whiskey sauce as well:

although just plain bread pudding is great too. I make pretty good bread pudding, but I suck at making rice pudding, which is really good when made well. I can never get that puddinglike consistency happening, and it always ends up like more of a sweetened rice casserole.

You drink enough whiskey and a dead horse's [censored] will taste good.

I love bread. There's good bread and great bread, there is no bad bread.

But bread pudding is an abomination. I'm in favor of a constitutional amendment banning it.

Bread pudding, mmmmmm!

Possibly my favorite dessert when done well. I'm in the Bay Area so if you feel the need to share . . .

You must have never had good bread pudding. And no, that's not an oxymoron!

a constitutional amendment is going too far andy. once you open that can of worms the amendments will fly and we won't be able to get good head cheese or okra. all the snot foods will be gone.

It makes about as much sense as a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

My first attempt at making bread pudding turned out to be a smashing success.

Andy, you're crazy. Bread pudding is awesome.

Thanks for the update...the suspense was killing me. You should have put the results in white below your original post.

try chocolate risotto. you can make it like regular risotto, but with brandy instead of wine, water or a cut syrup (or milk, if you want it extra creamy) instead of stock, and baking chocolate mixed in. also can add berries, cinnamon, or whatever for taste.

I note with dismay that Martha's recipe calls for raisins. This is a criminal act. Raisins in cookies or other cooked food is an abomination. People that add raisins to any cooked item should be gunned down without mercy, preferably with an assault weapon.

I also note with shock that only 3 tablespoons of liqueur is called for. This must be an error. Three bottles would be better, no?

I saw bread pudding once. It looked like moose drool mixed with buffalo vomit. Smelled like it also. I remained a respectable distance away from the vile concoction. I was forced to taste it by parental command. I had never ‘et’ vomit before that and have no desire to extend the experiment.

diablo, keep up the good work. that is great stuff. dont let those snobs get in your cooking ways. they eat wonder bread. add raisons and brandy or cognac. more egg to taste. this is one of the best desserts on earth.

I think you should have gone with french toast instead.
