For any new players out there who would like to hone their skills free of charge, check out Greg Reynolds' IRC Poker. Everyone starts at the same amount, but some of the higher-limit tables require you to build a certain bankroll first. Once you reach these levels, you will have very good competition who take the game seriously. There are also no-limit tournaments that are fun and helpful too! At first the user interface may seem confusing and the game moves very fast, but give it a couple hours and you will catch on without much trouble.

Here is the link to the website:

Hope to see you at the tables,

Be careful--like any poker game not played for money, people don't take it too seriously. Don't expect real games to be too much like these. You will see a lot looser play, with a lot more randomness, on IRC or the like. But, it is a good way to get a basic handle on the game.
