Sounds like a dumb question. Wondering how dumb it really is.

There are no dumb questions, only dumb.... nevermind.

In limit poker, no.
In NL Ring games, no.
In a big MTT, maybe, ask someone else.

I would only fold AA if there was substantial action late in a tournament and I had a large stack. Let the smaller stacks take each other out - don't risk your stack and move up on the payouts.

Under ANY circumstances?

Well, if you knew ahead of time that you would lose the hand... then I suppose it would be OK to fold. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you are in a MTT with the same prize for 1st-xth, you are in xth+1 place and two players are all in.

Do a search on "Folding AA preflop"

There are many, many threads on it already

Never start a land war in Asia.
Don't eat yellow snow.
Don't fold AA preflop.

Do those three things and you'll be ok.

To fold AA you must be in a tournament.

Then you must be in 1 of 2 situations:

1) On the bubble of a satellite where your chance of getting a seat by folding every hand are higher than your chances of getting a seat if you play AA and risk losing.

2) It basically doesn't come up but if you are on the bubble of a multi or in a situation with a large pay jump you can fold AA if you have a ridiculously short stack where winning still gives you no real chance of moving up in prizes.

Examples of both are written in proper detail in David's tournament for advanced players.

Folding AA in any other position is terrible.

I would fold AA if...

Final 2 tables of a MTT 50/5 or higher and 5 or more players go all in at the same time on your table.

There was also a scenario that Dynasty came up with a couple of years ago where AA was drawing completely dead preflop (vs either 11 or 12 opponents, I don't remember which)

It can't be dumb if Tommy Angelo did it once. And that was in limit too.

Tommy did it for non-poker related reasons, so I don't think that really counts. I'm sure even he would admit it was dumb.

I believe it was Clarkmeister that once came up with a situation where he might fold Aces preflop, but it involved a capped pot that he had not yet entered with the cap coming from a known rock who would only cap with the other 2 Aces in that situation.

In a satellite. See Tosh's answer.

Obviously, if you're folding AA, you're folding everything.

Depending on stack sizes it might be very correct to call here...but this is the only situation where folding the best hand could ever be correct.

Cool, I hope you make those kinds of errors at my table.
