Nevermind.....I just realized I should have raised the flop, took the free card on the turn and raised the river if I was bet in to.

Correct, or other lines?

well, its probably just me, but if I were playing against you I'd assume you had an overpair and would fold unless I had you beat. If everyone folds you would make less than you did.

why on earth didnt you raise the river? yes you should raise the flop to get the turn free card. you have position use it.

Raise the flop, so that if you miss the turn you may get to see the river for free. Once you hit on the river, you must raise, I think. Better players can correct me if I'm wrong.
