I want to buy 2 of these (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=24-001-158&depa=0) but the max resolution is only 1280x1024. It seems like I won't to be able to put 4 tables on each monitor.

There are tons of people who do, I am one of them, I've got 2 19" CRTs.

Anways, you won't fit 4 on each monitor.

Right. You need 1600x1200 to fit 4 tables.

I have two monitors now. I have a Dell 2001fp and a ViewSonic 17" LCD. The ViewSonic can only do 1280x1024. I ordered a second 2001fp over the weekend so I can eight-table. I'm going to sell my ViewSonic to a friend.

You can probably buy two CRT monitors capable of 1600x1200 for the price of one of those LCDs you are looking at, but they will be harsher on your eyes. You can also buy one Dell 2001fp, which is 20" and can do 1600x1200, for the same price as two of the LCDs you are looking at.

Decisions, decisions... /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm using a flat screen 19" CRT @ 1600x1200 and can't stand to use any lower resolution.

Those look really nice, but are a bit on the pricey side (as far as monitors in general are concerned). I think I'm going to aim for a dual setup with those in the future.

I use a 19-inch CRT too, and it's more than adequate.

What does sound interesting, in a kind of throw your money away fashion, is the idea of getting one and then quickly moving it all around the house, wherever you want to sit, in conjunction with a laptop. Forget that with one of those 50-pound CRT behemoths, but moving a laptop and a LCD monitor around would be a snap. Even if you added an external keyboard and mouse. Would be kinda nice to be playing poker out on the patio or in your regular place one day, then when you feel a little more tired, in the bedroom or whatever.

What you want to buy instead is 2 of these (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-001-133&depa=0).

That's even more expensive. /images/graemlins/shocked.gif I'm just a petty 0.5/1 and NL 25 player. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

In browsing the web today, I have not been able to discern the difference between any of:

Samsung SyncMaster 213T
ViewSonic VP201s(or b)
Dell UltraSharp 2001FP

They all seem like great monitors, but the Dell seems to be slightly cheaper on average. If you were compulsive about getting the latest and greatest, the ViewSonic VP230mb (http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/proseries/vp230mb/) seems sweet.

I don't own any of them; I'm just looking around trying to figure out how to progress from my current single-CRT setup. I haven't figured out what I would need for graphics cards - I think you can just plug in any random secord card for the second monitor and Windows makes it pretty seemless?

You can get a second PCI video card but you're better off buying a new video card that supports multiple DVI outputs (if your monitor supports it).

Don't buy a ViewSonic. They are a crappy rebranding vendor with crappy support.

Dell 2001FP = flawless geometry and saturation, great deals often available
Samsung 213T = all the best parts of the Dell's image quality plus much more consistent black levels and fewer reported screendoor effects, more expensive

I know a lot of people have them and like them, but buying a dell 2001 fp was one of the worst decisions I've ever made.

I play with 2 laptops (1 in each hand). I am confused about this dual monitor approach. I don't understand how to use a mouse with 2 different monitors, how do you control your mouse?

There's this thing called extended desktop where if you move the mouse to the side off of the screen it goes to the screen on the monitor next to it. That's what I do. It's very cool.

Is the "extended desktop" a program? Or does your computer automatically recognize that there are 2 monitors connected and allow you to move items off to the right??

you go into control panal then aperences and themes or display depending on the system, then change screen resolution. I have only done it with xp, but in xp you will see a second moniter that is lighter colored off to the right. After you hook up a second moniter you click on it, set the res. and click the extend my windows desktop onto this moniter box. then you can position the moniter so that it matches you physical setup. This lets the mouse travel properly between the moniters. So, if the second moniter is actually to the left instead of right of the original monitor, you can move it there in the setting.
