I thought I was ahead on the flop and didn't think the turn helped him.....Should I be calling this?

no. Fold the turn. you are losing to 44, 55, 66, 77, 88 if you think hes on a pocket pair.You are also losing to connectors 45, 56, 67, 78, 1 gappers 46, 57, 68.

So unless if you think hes playing single 8 high kicker, 99, or completely bluffing, I think you are beat.

But more importantly, bet preflop when you hold TT in the button and maybe you won't find yourself in this position.

Yes, in retrospect I should have raised preflop. I thought maybe 55 but wouldn't he re-raise me with any of those other hands?

reraise you where? on the flop? I could see a reraise o only if he had a set on the flop.Even then, they might not reraise the set all the time as they realize your raise indicated you holding more of a Higher pocket pair or TPTK rather than straight/flush draw.

Regardless, the turn is an easy fold.
