I figure at a $5-10 hold'em game in a casino, the rake, tokes, and bad beat jackpot costs each player around $16/ hour. This seems difficult to overcome in the longterm.
Any thoughts?

Thats a lot...my strategy will be to consume a minimum of 6 Crown Royals/hour to reduce rake...

Then I'm a much better player than I first thought.

I try to match the rake in alcoholic consumption too...

Where I play it costs $11/half hour in rake to play $80/$160, with tokes of maybe $2/hour in a full game. That's only 0.15BB per hour. Seems much more beatable, no?

I know what you mean. Experts say that very excellent players can beat a game for 1.5 big bets an hour in the long run. So very excellent players break even in your game with your assumptions as to the cost.

Expert players can beat a game for 2 big bets per hour.

I'm not sure if those stats include the cost of playing poker or not. Clearly though ... MOST PEOPLE LOSE! IF THEY SAY THEY DONT, THEY ARE LYING OR FOOLING THEMSELVES.

At 4/8, my standard game I think everyone loses in the long run. But in my game it's a $3 drop + $1 jackpot collection + Tokes for a staggering $5 each time you win a pot of any size. If it's the blinds and the sb only completes and neither player bets, the winner gets $4 - Toke ... that's robbery.
