View Full Version : What is a "big" pot?

10-26-2001, 11:27 PM
Throughout many two plus two writings is the theme that alternate strategies may be employed in order to maximize one's chances of winning a pot once it becomes "large". My question is this. In a limit hold'em (or stud) game, what constitutes a "big" pot as it is referred to in these writings? At What point must we begin to consider a pot as "large"?

Thank you.

A pot starts looking big to me when it's got about 8 big bets in it. No fancy math. No theoretical basis. But 8 big bets starts saying BIG to me.

I'd say, anything that gives a gunshot pot odds to take one card for one bet. So about 6 big bets on the flop and 12 big bets on later streets.
