Will the popularity of poker hasten attempts to crack down on the sites, their ISP's and Financial Institutions or will the added legitimacy of poker hinder such legal efforts in the U.S.?

I always seem to 'read' American politics the wrong way, but I would imagine upsetting hundreds of thousands of people wouldn't be a vote winner.

There are at least 10X as many gay people in the U.S. as there are online poker players, but that hasn't stopped their respective political antagonists.

I'm not so sure about that number. Both groups however are fighting against essentially the same people.
