View Full Version : 1,000,000th Post on 2+2!!

In case you haven't noticed, 2+2 is about to surpass the 1,000,000th post mark (I assume this is from July 2001 when the forum was changed).

We have only 3500 or so posts to go, and we are putting on some 2000 to 3000 posts a day. So come late Tuesday or early Wednesday, we could reach this mark!

Should we have a contest to reward the maker of the 1,000,000th post?

Should we take bets on exactly when that post will be made?

Of the 25 forums on 2+2, I predict that the 1 millionth post will be made in the Micro-Limits forum.

by a sheer mathematical standpoint, i predict that one of the steven punk incarnations will have the honor.

i propose that mason send the 1,000,000th poster a copy of one of the crappy selling titles that they are over-stocked on. either that, or a xeroxed collection of his essays.

If you view the thread in flat mode, the post# appears right next to the date and time in the header of each post. It does not show in threaded mode, but if you scan the URL in the address box, you will find it there.

This is post #996849

All this millionth post crap is just superstitious numerology. Who cares?

Now if a site is offering a promotion on their billionth hand, well that is a money making situation.

Poker is about logic, not superstition.

Taking shots again. Yet you won't come to a poker table, even a play money table and show me the error of my ways.

Seriously by the time you turn 13 you will have made a friend. In the meantime you can fall back on your strong 2+2 reputation and the posters that love your work.

you got the 999000th post. Only 1000 to go. It is interesting to note that the 1000 posts left t'il 1 million represent 1% of the total posts on 2+2 yet will only take a day at best to reach that mark.

Hi El Barto:

I don't know if we would have a way of identifying the 1,000,000th post. Plus, that's only since the forum software was changed. I think the current number is more like 3,000,000 and at current rate we are adding about 1,000,000 a year.

Best wishes,
Mason

I guess it's true that it's since the software change, but how can you not identify it? The number is on every single post...

EDIT: Maybe you mean it would be hard to identify the real one millionth post which would be years back.

I am going to have to give you an F on your math here, Mason.

A previous post in this thread pointed out that the 500,000th post was made in January '04. The last 500,000 posts in less than 8 months. (over 60,000 posts/month)

The previous 500,000 posts before that spanned from July 2001 to Jan. 2004, some 30 months. (about 17,000 posts/month)

The previous forum software was used from July '97 to July '01, some 48 months. The forum usage was significantly less back then, so we are only talking maybe 300,000 posts at most. (over 6,000 posts/month) The long timers can verify how less active the early years were.

That gives me about 1.3 million posts for the entire history of 2+2. Your guess of 3 million posts is way too high.

A valid point. I checked the rate of posting in Sept. '02, and it amounts to about 10,000 a month (120,000 a year). Regardless of software changes, previous months will obviously average fewer and fewer as we go backwards to 1997.

perhaps he is saying that once the 1,000,000 th post is done, there is no way to know where it happened without checking all posts from the time period.

can you search by post number?

from the useless information database:

post 1,000,000 was made on 9/7/04 4:33pm
post 1,250,000 was made on 11/12/04 1:29am

It took us 65 days and 9 hours to post a quarter million times.

Based on the above:
We post an average of 1,395,900 posts per year.
We post an average of 116,325 posts per month.
We post an average of 3,825 posts per day.
We post an average of 159 posts per hour.
We post an average of 2.66 posts per minute.
On average, a post is made every 23 seconds.
