Pacific poker 1/2

Passive table I am
OTB with J10s. Comes to me with 7 limpers. I think for a moment. I raise.

Is this an +ev play?

Or was I getting my LAG on?

With this many players in the pot allready.

seems good to me. Your hand flops lots of good draws that win big multiway pots - pumping it so you have the odds to chase some of those is a good idea. Also gives you control of the hand early, and at a loose passive table like that (assuming it is, due to 7 limpers) you'll get checked to on the flop and you can decide what to do from there.

Pumping big multiway pots pre-flop with hands that play excelently multi way seems great. Now if there was one or two limpers, it's not a good idea (from any position in my opinion). But with that many people in the pot, it's fine.

Its a good move, you only need 4 or 5 limpers for this so 7 is heaps.

I think that SSHE specifically says that it's good to raise with a hand like JTs against a huge field of limpers like this.

I'm not positive on this....maybe it was in HEFAP somewhere.

Anyway, regardless of where I originally saw the idea, I think it's +EV both from the button and in the BB.

The first time it happened. Im holding Jc 10c. Flp comes Qh Qc Kc. Turn 8c River 2c.

I took down 30 BB

Made up for the fool who beat my Pocket kings that got beat by 72 suited in a raised pot.

2nd hand had j10c Hit the straight on the flop 9 qk

took 15 BB with that. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You can get some nice pot winning hands with J10s that will beat 7 other players, so I say good raise.

Excellent raise, and a beautiful table to be able to have a hand like that at. I believe you can go that far with slightly lower suited connectors and select other drawing hands.

The thing I need to get better at dealing with is that 2p (or a legitimate draw to better) is really the minimum to stick around with postflop; and if you get your two pair someone has a straight draw (maybe a poor one but there are too many people in). If you can manage a pair with backdoor straight and flush draws the odds aren't too bad either if people continue going with it postflop.

How bout in situations where A person raise that and the table goes bezerk. Comes back capped or when it gets to me capped?

If it gets back to you with >1 bet to call, and theres multiple raises before you, you should probably fold. if its only 1 bet to you, or if the second raiser you know is just a complete maniacal "raise me eh?" type person, then calling is an option. I think even if the guy is maniacal though it may not be the right move to call >1 bet with JTs in poor position.

Your raise is good beacause your hand will win in an unraised seven player pot more than 1 in 7. Every raise you get the players to put in will make a small profit in the long run. Making the pot big so you can draw to your hand later is not a good reason to raise.
