I'm trying to find a place to stay with my wife for a short excursion to Vegas. I am also trying to convince her its not worth paying $200 a damn night in the mega resorts. Is Bally's a decent place? I have found it for $99 a night for the nights we want to stay.

Nothing wrong with Ballys. But does it matter? Obviously if you aren't shelling out a ridiculous $200 a night, your wife isn't going to be happy.

try the Westin right behind Bally's....great rooms and beds, cool little casino, and fantastic prices...plus, it's within walking distance of the strip...trust me, if you go to a place like Bally's, your wife will not like it...the rooms of those kind of casinos are comparable to a Holiday Inn! Nothing to write home about...

Or, treat yourself at Mandalay Bay, the Palms, The Mirage...believe it or not, it's worth the price to stay in luxurious comfort...

all this depends on your budget, of course...

There are some places like the Aladdin and Monte Carlo which should be considerably cheaper than $200/night but which still feel like a megaresort.

I stayed there a few weeks ago and thought it was just fine. It's hooked to the Paris which is very nice and you can walk right over to Belagio. I recommend it.

Thanks for the tips everyone. She thinks she wants to stay at the Luxor now--which is only a few dollars more than the Bellagio. Does anyoen have experience with that hotel?

I have also stayed at the luxor, I think its a very nice hotel and you have easy access to the excalibur and NYNY. Getting to the correct elavator/inculator is a bit confusing sometimes, especially when drunk, but I think it a good hotel and would recommend staying there. The rooms are nothing special but when I go to vegas I really don't care much about the rooms because I am rarely in it. Your wife might like the shopping on the walk between excalabur and luxor.

The Luxor can't possibly cost more than the Bellagio. If it did, no one would ever stay there.

That said, the Luxor is a perfectly decent hotel. But if the price for when you're going is really more than Bellagio, stay at the Bellagio...there's no comparison.

if you play around w/ the numbers right, you should be able to get the venetian (5* hotel) on priceline for around $100.

We are going Sunday and monday, and it just happens to be Halloween--so I'm guessing that's why the prices are so high.
