NEW YORK — In what has been described by Navy officials as a routine process, the Pentagon's inspector general's office on Thursday referred to the secretary of the Navy a request to investigate medals won by Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (search) during the Vietnam War.

Should be interesting to see what they come up with.

If Kerry released all his military records (which he refuses to do), we could end this controversy quickly.

Personally, I honor Kerry's brief service in Vietnam. It's the stuff he did afterwards (the next few decades)....

I don't know but I somehow doubt this is a coincidence.

I thought the same thing when I read it. If you read the story you will learn that Kerry is being investigated at the request of a group called Judicial Watch (http://www.judicialwatch.org/about.shtml) I skimmed through some of their cases, although JW claims to be non-partisan, they appeared to me to tilt to the right. However, that could be because most of the corruption in our nation's government comes from the left;). Anyways, the links there, explore it and make your own decision.

"If you read the story you will learn that Kerry is being investigated at the request of a group called Judicial Watch I skimmed through some of their cases, although JW claims to be non-partisan, they appeared to me to tilt to the right."

Judicial Watch is led by "President Tom Fitton, a well known conservative activist", as he describes himself in the organisation's website (http://www.judicialwatch.org/cases.shtml) . A quick glance at Judicial Watch's activities shows a flurry of activity during Clinton's term, taking up the cases of GENNIFER FLOWERS, JUANITA BROADDRICK, and others.

During Dubya's term, Judicial Watch has been mostly quiet. Now this request to investigate the medals of Kerry, awarded thirty years ago. Sometimes coincidence takes its time to creep up on you.

Well you got that one wrong big time. JW was the moving force behind the efforts in the courts to dig into Cheney's meetings on energy policy. After several thousands of posts in this very forum on that topic in the past few years, I would think you would remember the thorn in my side that Judicial Watch has been.

that Kerry has with Lehmans signature, "It is a total mystery to me. I never saw it. I never signed it. I never approved it. And the additional language it contains was not written by me,"

Kerry citation a 'total mystery' to ex-Navy chief

August 28, 2004

BY THOMAS LIPSCOMB

Former Navy Secretary John Lehman has no idea where a Silver Star citation displayed on Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's campaign Web site came from, he said Friday. The citation appears over Lehman's signature.

"It is a total mystery to me. I never saw it. I never signed it. I never approved it. And the additional language it contains was not written by me," he said.

The additional language varied from the two previous citations, signed first by Adm. Elmo Zumwalt and then Adm. John Hyland, which themselves differ. The new material added in the Lehman citation reads in part: "By his brave actions, bold initiative, and unwavering devotion to duty, Lieutenant (jg) Kerry reflected great credit upon himself...."

Asked how the citation could have been executed over his signature without his knowledge, Lehman said: "I have no idea. I can only imagine they were signed by an autopen." The autopen is a device often used in the routine execution of executive documents in government.

Kerry senior adviser Michael Meehan could not be reached for comment on Kerry's records.

There are very legitimate issues regarding his first Puple Heart and whether or not he should have received one (it required a band aid only), his story has changed on the Bronze star a few times (a version on the Congressional record that Kerry gave, Kerry's original version, and Kerry's revised version to name three), nobody saw him shoot who he is reported to have shot for his Silver star, and his third Purple Heart is in question (stay tuned for that one).

Kerry could clear this up by authorizing full disclosure of his military records.

It's time for the Democrats to disparage some Vets, indicate that Novak's a direct quote of Lehman was written by a conservative columnist, point to Cheney's deferments, say that Bush went AWOL, say that Bush used his influence to get into the National Guard, and what have you. Too funny.

Speaking of Dubya's military records, maybe you'd be interested in what this guy (http://www.glcq.com/me.htm) says they show. (http://www.glcq.com/)

And according to this (http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2004/09/02/allison/index.html) article, Ben Barnes (http://win20ca.audiovideoweb.com/ca20win15004/5.BarnesonVietnam.wmv) will be appearing on 60 Minutes in the very near future...
