Maybe I missed an earlier post but I just noticed this on Harrah's website.

http://www.harrahs.com/wsop/

The 2005 WSOP will be held from June 3rd to July 15th. That means the main event will start on approximately July 8th

By comparison, the 2004 WSOP started on 4/22. The main event started on 5/22 and ended on 5/28.

Of course, the whole event is being moved to the Rio casino/hotel which is about one mile west of the Strip rather than being held in downtown's Binion's Horseshoe.

I believe the final table for the main event will be held at Binions.

Yea I heard the last two days of the main event will be held at the Horseshoe. Fremont Street lobbied for it b/c they don't want to lose out on all the business that the tourists bring.

5000 + Players (easily) (even my podunk town with 2 cardrooms (2) tables is talking about sending 3 people, in winner take all tournies held throughout the coming year, and yes this is new.)

Daniel N. (Danny boy) will make the final table.

The youngest player in tournament history will be crowned the "champion" and Phil Hellmuth will commit Hari Kari - (sp.) after a long winded rant session.

Harrahs will make so much friggin' money that they will build a new poker colliseum/stadium/casino (whatever) in preparation for 2006.

That is all for now...CC

oops- meant for the other thread (no coffee yet this morning) /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

do you think the move will spell the end of downtown. maybe the final table at the horseshoe will keep it alive. i went there 3 years ago and the whole "freedmont experience\glitter gulch" just felt "dirty" to me. maybe im just used to nice clean casinos.(i know these casinos are no frills for true gamblers but maybe i like frills /images/graemlins/grin.gif). anyway the wife hated that area and we prob wont go back downtown unless its to do with the WSOP.

Nope. The final two days being at the Horseshoe is a one year deal. After 2005, everything will be on the strip.

The original question suggests that downtown is still alive. I haven't been down there in three years.

It'll keep going. Poker wasn't important for downtown anyway.
