This was very fishy. It was not the turn, but the flop that was fishy.

Could you elaborate? I thought the turn was the fishy move:

The turn: Pot laying about 1:3.5, and since the ace outs are probably no good, no odds to call down.

The flop: Both guys are practically pot-stuck, so if if you get there you're probably going to win at least one if not both of their stacks... so the pot is laying (implied) somewhere around 8:(23+18 or 23+13 or 23+18+13)

This is... 1:5.125 or 1:4.5 or 1:6.75. I think it's not a bad call on a flush draw, especially if he had the feeling (as I probably would have) that both were coming along for the ride. The odds are even better if the SB calls (a raise wouldn't be TOO troubling since then you'd have 3 potstuck folks against your flushdraw and you could just re-raise allin)

I would've called the flop and folded the turn myself....

I am pretty green though and your posts are usually spot on so I'm wondering what your rationale was?

preflop:
you're playing A8s, which has most of its value as a drawing/2 pair hand. you're playing it from early position where you won't know the odds you'll be getting for your draw. this is something i wouldn't do 10 handed.

post flop:
this is actually a pretty good flop for you. certainly one i'd get aggro with. you have one over plus a nut flush draw. min bet from UTG is certainly fishy; i'd bump it up to fold out weak jacks, other aces and overcards. yes, here you ran into top two and a set, but in general i'd give them a reason to fold or let me know that i'm in trouble. (trouble here is being on a flush draw against a set because your draw can easily be cracked if made, or being against AA, which is unlikely)

turn: calling here is a simple player-dependant decision here. if i feel there's a set out there, i can have up to 2 of my 9 outs dirty here, so i fold. if i think i've got a strong jack and an overpair in a pissing contest, i call.

dump suited aces on party poker. the stacks are so short that its not the type of hand it is on other sites
