Super Wednesday Limit

50 make the money and we're at 51. I've had nothing all night. 3 times down to the felt, and 3 times got a big hand to climb out. I have 3700 with limits of 600/1200. There are 3 stacks under 1K.

I haven't played a hand for 3 orbits. I'm also in a $100 NL and I've made the money there. Looks like 2 cashes tonight.
I get Js Ts 2 off the button and decide to open raise. Button calls. Crap. I can fold if the flop misses me and still have enough to outwait the small stacks, but I'd like more chips. Flop is the glorious Ks Qs 8s. I bet he calls every street and I get all-in on the river. He had JJ

THe chips just sit there since we're waiting for other hands to finish. 2+2er Enon says "you had a big draw there", and I laugh. THen I notice the Q is a club. I think I need my eyes checked, I saw 3 spades on the flop. I'm out on the bubble. I probably couldn't get away from it anyway, but jeeeez.

Here's a big bubble mistake from a limit tourney I played last month. I have a smallish medium stack and pick up QQ in EP or MP. To cut to the chase, on the turn I made my set (the nuts at the time), the river came the third card to a flush. I had like 1.8 BB left an I bet out! I get raised by the flush of course and make a crying call (the pot is huge, 4 people went to the flop, but it is HU at this point). All I had to do was check call and even if I lost I could have taken the blinds (if I even needed to) and made the money. I had played as mistake free as I could all tourney and made one mistake at the end, ugh! At least that lesson is ingrained now.

How bout this one... loose limit cash game and i'm in with a suited connector and flop an open ended straight draw. Turn... nope River nope... I fold. Then comparing the players hands to the board to see what they had I realize I had more than an open ended straight draw... I flopped the straight.

Next time you can get away from it if you go to the main lobby first, and under options, check the 4 colored deck that will make clubs show up as green and spades as black.

I'm surprised you don't know about this already since you multitable.

Hey David,

I've made similar mistakes. Worst was throwing away the nut flush in a very large pot in a live tourney. (I actually tried to take the hand back, since it didn't hit the muck. Eventually the hand was ruled dead...big debate between casino workers, but I think the tourney director making the final ruling was wrong...there was no documented house rule on fold motions... But really, it was my own damn fault for acting before looking and thinking).

Cheers,
Frank

Yeah, you're going to have to get all the chips in no matter what, but I know how you feel. For some reason I absolutely have to use the 4-color deck on Party, my eyes just won't process the suits like they do on Stars and other sites.

Agreed. I won't play at a site that doesn't have 4-colored decks. Too confusing otherwise, especially when multi-tabling.

Until you've played your 33 thinking you'd flopped a set with the 2 on the board, I don't think you are qualified to talk about stupid plays.

I had a total meltdown in a similar situation in a PLO8 tourney on Party. I've got about the 4th biggest stack with 11 left; 10 get paid. The chip leader makes a pot sized raise from UTG. I've got a suited ace and A2. I call and flop a low draw only. I still had plenty of chips left to get away from the hand and easily make the final table, but the voice in my head said "He's bluffing"(Always be wary of the voices in your head). The next thing I know, I'm all in; my low doesn't get there, and he shows me quad kings for my trouble.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid!!!!!

I feel your pain.

Good luck all,

Fitz

David mostly plays for the love of the game. Any money he happens to win, he wastes on things like food and shelter /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Or the other way around /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif

or

When you think you flopped two pair BUT it's on a different game. You push get called and swear the software just screwed you over because you had two pair when you pushed and the cards changed at showdown. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

If it was one of those satellites where all 50 get the buy in for the bigger tourny, then it was bad. I've found myself folding some damn good hands pre-flop when close to getting the buyin. If it was one where there's a percentage payout that's alright.

I am very surprised you don't use the 4 color deck DR... That said, I often will look at a flop and think nice, then realize it fits my cards on another table. I guess I've probably made mistakes like this in the past but don't even notice them. who knows, I could be doing something like this 2 times a night on not be any the wiser.

09-02-2004, 03:37 PM
Can you do this at Party? For one thing, I don't have good eyesights and with the terrible graphics at Party, I sometimes have to stare closely to distinguish between a spade and a club. I surely have made similar mistakes like David albeit in ring games.

Live limit tourneys at Trop about 2 years ago so I do not remember the details. Anyway:

First tourney: Being short stack, I went all in with Kh9h and got called in 2 places. Flop was Jh Qc 8d. I said to myself: C'mon T. Turn was 7h. River 2h. I mucked mumbling to myself about missing my gutshot and disgustedly stormed out of the room - then realized too late that I mucked a runner runner flush.

Tourney II

Called with 7c6c on the button after 4 limpers. Flop was 5c 8c Ad. Great, open ended SF draw. One guy bets, 1 caller and I just called too. Turn was the glorious 9c. First guy bets, a raise, and I just called thinking there is a flush and maybe somebody is drawing with Ac. River was Kc. Bet, raise, I re-raise, fold, cap, I called, proudly declaring straight flush. Turned my cards up to see 7c 6d!!! The f***g lousy lighting at Trop did me in.

Go figure.

If it makes you feel better I read in CardPlayer that Negreanu did the same thing once.

Yes, you can. In the PP Lobby window, go to Options->Video&Audio Options->4 Color Deck On/Off.

Okay, I'll play. :-)

Single-table tournament, and we're down to four players. I cover the screen with my hand so I can peek at my cards -- because as we all know, if you reveal your cards s l o w l y, they're much more likely to change. :-)

There's a decent-sized raise to me, and my first card is a jack. As I slowly reveal my second card, I see the fishhook: pair of jacks! I am momentarily distracted by my roommate's cat, and wind up raising all in before completely revealing my second card.

Yep. All in with J-5.

Now: what's even stupider than that?

I still do it.
