... rest of the hand is unimportant. The straight never came.

I wasn't paying enough attention to the hand, and raised even though it wasn't likely I'd get any customers - this fact makes the raise a bad one, right?

Limping is not bad here since he has position. The flop raise is good assuming the table is fairly passive. You might get a free card on the turn.

The raise isn't that bad if you think that raising may result in you winning by hitting a 9 or 8, or is very likely to buy you a free river. But you need to get two cold calls for the raise to be for value.

And don't play 98o, even on the button after limpers.

I'm not going to win with 8s or 9s - the bettor has the queen. It was a value raise, for the OESD. That's why I think it was improper, because I didn't expect to get enough callers. That's the point of the post.

I would never know if this was a bad or good flop raise because I auto muck 89o.
