View Full Version : Rank of AA in Lowball?

We had a question that came up in our home game last night. Playing high/lo declare, someone declared both ways with AA, saying that the aces could be counted as a high pair and a low pair below deuces.

I told him I had never heard that before, but he swears that it is the correct ranking in lowball. A couple of the other players said they "thought" they had heard that before. If we allowed it, the guy would have scooped with the hand, but since this was unfamiliar to the majority, we decided to split the pot between the two remaining players.

However, we would like to come to some consensus on this question for future occurances.

Does anyone know how AA is ranked in lowball, and if it would be any different in high/low? Also, if anyone has any references (books, websites, etc.) to answer this question, it would be much appreciated.

From Cooke & Caro's Rules of Poker:

"In most low and high-low split games aces play for high or low, so that a pair of aces is a better low hand than a pair of deuces."
